We are currently looking for an Analytics Director in Shanghai to join us. This role sits at the heart of our belief that when we apply our Wavemaker analytics capabilities, systems, tools, thinking, creativity and talent in the right way we are unbeatable. You’ll help build and deploy analytics solutions in terms of scientific way of media planning, measurement and optimization for our clients in WM China.

This role reports to Analytics Business Director, China

  1. Proven experience of an analytics expert, a solid understanding and experience of media planning, media landscape, way of media with /marketing measurement and performance optimization in China.
  2. A great storyteller leveraging data and a trusted client advisor with business acumen, who can interpret data stories in a clear & easy-to-understand manner to clients and internal key stakeholders.
  3. An excellent team player with strong analytics and media knowledge, boundless energy and strong interpersonal skills who can collaborate effectively with local and global teams in order to deliver end-to-end solutions to our key clients and pitches.

Measures of success –for Line Manager’s reference

There are two key elements to this role:

  1. Lead analysts to deliver analytics solution, from media planning & optimization perspective, to support client’s business and pitches.
  2. Work with other key specialist teams to pilot and develop end-to-end analytics solutions within or outside of Walled-garden platforms.

In three months:

  1. Fully familiarized with all of the data sources, analytics and product offerings in Wavemaker and GroupM/WPP.
  2. Work with team members to deliver existing client works and pitches.
  3. Start exploring with other internal planning, specialist teams or even outside vendors to identify potential requests or opportunities to build up analytics capability.

In six months:

  1. Build trusts with clients and internal key stakeholders from planning teams through solid and end-to-end analytics solution delivery.
  2. Identify potential improvement/upgrade of existing analytics solution and generate plans to upgrade.
  3. Start pilot testing with at least two internal teams or vendors for new or upgrade analytics solutions within or outside of Walled-garden platforms.


In 12 months:

  1. Fully lead key analytics accounts with the help of analysts; Be able to provide bespoke end-to-end solutions based on clients’ requirement and then deploy with good quality.
  2. Upgrade and expand our analytics capabilities through innovative pilot projects with internal specialist teams or exploring emerging industry change/new analytics approaches with vendors.


Responsibilities of the role:

Media & Digital Analytics Experts:

  • Fully understand of all WM, GroupM and WPP level data sources, analytics and product offerings; Able to integrate current internal data sources/solutions to satisfy clients’ needs.
  • Upgrade and expand current analytics scopes through internal or external cooperation.
  • A key leader and contributor to deliver end-to-end analytics solutions to key clients and pitches.
  • Ensure that our customized solutions for clients are built on a solid foundation from both data & analytics and media strategy & planning perspective.


Agency/Global level cooperation

  • Co-work with other internal specialist teams (Audience Planning, Content, Social, etc.) to pilot analytics related solutions in media campaign/project and build case studies.
  • Co-work with global analytics & product teams to pilot or upgrade existing analytics related tools and solutions.
  • Explore and work with external vendors to develop latest analytics solutions to clients and agency level.
  • Drive new business success for Wavemaker China by working with other specialist teams together to develop pitch story through planning & analytics perspective.



What you will need:

The ideal candidate will be a business acumen with at least 6 - 8 years’ experience in media planning or media strategy background in China, ideally with training experience and global client experience.

  • Positive attitude, professional and self-starter.
  • High standards of commitment and delivery
  • Proven experience in analytics who have a fully understanding of China media landscape, media planning, measurement and optimization.
  • Proven experience in applying analytics solution within Walled-garden platforms (such as Ali, Tencent, Bytedance, etc.)
  • Business acumen with the ability to simplify the complex without becoming simplistic.
  • Any EC or audience-based planning background a big plus
  • Superb ppt and presentation skills in Mandarin Chinese and English.
  • Willingness to leverage data & analytics solutions to solve media and business challenges
  • Willingness to step in, take responsibilities and work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and multi-task.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Be comfortable in dynamic, fast paced and collaborative environments.
