Planning is where art meets science. You are the story teller, the person that connects all the dots, defines the idea, in essence you are the systems architect. As a Planner you work with Strategy to activate their strategy in media, you engage with the Business Leadership team to deliver on your client’s objectives and working with your Investment counterpart to execute your ideas.

You use your ‘know how’, horizontality and overview of the market to know what media product will deliver the desired outcomes and build the client’s trust in you and your recommendations.

You will be the custodian of ensuring Mediacom’s planning product and planning principles are adhered to across briefs. You will work with managers and executives training and coaching their planning ability, upskilling them on Mediacom’s planning product.

Core Principles of a Good Planner:

  • A strong base of knowledge across all media channels paid, owned and earned.
  • Comfortable working with data – being able to pull actionable insights within a clients data set translating this into planning lead implications/optimizations. Ability to build and optimize reach and use tools to do this.
  • In-depth understanding of the latest research on media effectiveness and how media drives growth
  • A good story teller – particularly linking a strategy through to planning implications and execution
  • Strong background in audience and signal planning understanding how to build audiences and translate them into segments we can buy and activate against
  • Ability to generate cross platform ideas and extensions that bring the strategy to life and translate it into activation
  • Competency working across planning tools from audience planning, allocation and optimisation
  • Outcome focused – Linking the campaign task objectives and objectives to a KPI framework
  • Ability to work with implementation teams to translate the strategy into actionable buying strategies

On any given day, you might:

  • Ensures Mediacom’s planning process is delivered across clients
  • Investigates and establishes planning principles based on the client core challenges and nature of their business
  • Is aware and up to date with the latest developments and research on media planning and effectiveness
  • Sets up the framework & direction when strategy has not been engaged on the brief​
  • Develops the strategic framework further by allocating budget and channels ​
  • Outlines the roles of channel and rationale​
  • Provides compelling data & evidence around WHY we’re recommending certain channels, partners etc​
  • Generates media-led ideas ​
  • Explodes the ideas (wherever they come from) across all channels ​
  • Works closely with media owners to know what’s possible ​
  • Allocates and optimized budgets within media channels, building block plans with reach & frequency estimates​
  • Builds key relationships with key client stake holders in marketing, planning and strategy
  • Works with client teams to share thought leadership on media planning effectiveness either pro-actively or in key stakeholder meetings
  • Identifies key campaigns/briefs to deliver innovative and award winning work that will elevate the client relationship
  • Inspires and motivates the team to find ideas
  • Coaches and trains managers and executives to deliver Mediacom’s planning product across all briefs
  • Identifies key award winning campaigns and briefs to submit for industry awards
  • Spots opportunities for using MediaCom/GroupM/WPP products​ such as dynamic creative or deeper measurement and analytics

You Bring

  • An extensive experience in media planning and truly understanding the relationship between channels
  • A knowledge of what could be first in market or a unique opportunity
  • An awareness of what award winning work looks like
  • Previous experience in Investment with an understanding of media buying/trading
  • Strong communication & presentation skills
  • Previous people management experience, with the ability to define your management style and expectations for your team
  • In-depth knowledge of media channels and tools
  • High levels of energy that helps cultivate a positive social and high performing culture
  • An innate ability to understand numbers like a second language and translate them into a story for our clients
