The Investment Operations Manager position oversees and manages the Investment Operations functions including portfolio analysis, security analysis, and transaction processing.  This position is also responsible for investment transactions and ensuring service level standards are met.  The Manager will work closely with internal clients, such as Investment Strategy, Accounting, Risk, Audit, Legal and Compliance, as well as partnerships with external providers of portfolio management, investment accounting, and data management services such as Blackrock Aladdin and various other third-party vendors to assure that all data sources are operating properly.  The position is a working managerial role with responsibilities that must be completed directly by the manager in addition to supervising department staff.  Work is performed on behalf of multiple insurance companies and entities within the Group 1001 group of companies and with multi-state jurisdictions and requirements. 

Main Accountabilities:

  • Directs and leads the execution of investment operations, including trade execution, corporate actions, investment setup, reconciliation, cash publishing, etc., in accordance with guidelines and requirements.
  • Monitors settlement process and custodian activity, ensuring timely and accurate handling and recording of investment transactions.
  • Assists with managing relationships with clients, vendor partners, and internal team partners.
  • Develops, monitors, and maintains service level agreement standards, and ensures standards are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Monitors and maintains timely and accurate portfolio data, ensuring policies and procedures are in place and followed in order to maintain an accurate Investment Book of Record.
  • Assures that all procedure documentation and workflows are followed and are current for Investment Operations.
  • Manages investment operations staff including coaching and counseling, evaluating performance, conducting performance reviews, maintaining attendance records, ensuring department and company practices and procedures are followed, ensuring adequate coverage, and assisting with the hiring process. Motivates staff to continuously provide the highest level of service to internal and external customers within guidelines for accuracy, timeliness, and productivity
  • Involved in multiple ad-hoc projects related to investment operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Finance or Accounting
  • MBA a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in investment operations with an emphasis on middle and back-office investment operations
  • Deep knowledge of investment operations functions across the front, middle and back-office
  • Excellent communication skills and communicate complex financial and investment data clearly and concisely
  • Structured, disciplined approach to work, with attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Good interpersonal skills combined with the willingness to listen, ability to manage conflict plus influence and build relationships
  • Ability to react positively under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Aladdin and Bloomberg in addition to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as R and Python.
