Position Mission:

The Director of Product Engineering is responsible for leading the Product Engineering function from planning to execution. Reporting to the VP of Procurement, this role will play a key leadership role, including hiring and leading a high-performing team with a focus on delivering world-class safety, quality, cost effectiveness, and sustainability results. This role will have a set team to drive new product introduction while improving yield and quality to meet customer expectations. This role will direct the New Product Development through Test engineering, Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing, Quality and Logistics teams to ensure products exceed all standard safety requirements.


  • Supplier and Product Quality
  • Drive safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and engagement of overall operations through effective leadership
  • Develop and execute best in class supplier and product quality organization, Audits, Inspections, Testing, Regulatory Compliance
  • Concisely and effectively communicate strategic and tactical execution status to executive management and cross functional teams
  • Foster a culture of excellence, agility, innovation, collaboration, trust and alignment with business
  • Drive continuous improvement in the organizational, technical, and business information processes/systems through lean/innovative thinking/ideas
  • Anticipates future needs and initiates the development and implementation of new approaches to product engineering with exceptional scope and significant customer impact
  • Develop and implement long-range plans to create engineering or product engineering specific strategies & budget to reach goals and reviews engineering specifications
  • Ensures strategies and processes address high value problems for the operations engineering and is aligned with the organizational goals
  • Interfaces with internal and external customers and suppliers on product engineering issues and development involving the Merchandising and Sourcing department to help shape future products
  • Cost Management, Should Cost and Value Engineering
  • Understand Operations’ systems, processes, costs, cost-reduction roadmap, production throughput, product flows, capacity requirements and capacity roadmaps
  • Develop and execute Cost Management function to support strategic cost initiatives; negotiations, price inflation, global bids/tenders, including leading and executing Should Cost and Value Engineering program
  • Adeptly plan and manage the department budget, technology costs and funding plans balancing growth and fiscal responsibility
  • Leading Teams
  • Build organizational capability through proactive coaching of your direct reports on skill-building and career development
  • Directs the engineering group and responsible for all complex programs in accordance with project budgets and release schedules

Experience, Education, and Abilities:

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering, or closely related field
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Management preferred
  • At least 7 years of technical managerial experience
  • At least 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, process development, project execution, Capital project management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead operations in a matrixed organization
  • Proven success driving lean principles and philosophies
  • Experience in full-cycle product development
  • Experience working in a retail or wholesale distribution environment
  • Strong product and cost mindset, practical knowledge of success factors
  • Solid experience in developing strategy and roadmap
  • Keen interest in emerging trends research and/or initiatives.
  • Excellent collaboration, influencing and communication skills
  • Strategic and critical thinking - ability to balance strategic and tactical considerations
  • Deep understanding of leveraging data and analytics
  • Confidence and willingness to take calculated risks, implement new ideas, drive for results and sustain change
  • Willing to travel occasionally (estimated 10% travel)
