Summary: The primary goal of this Associate Merchandise Manager is to contribute to SPR’s sales growth and profitability by securing and maintaining competitive pricing and programs for assigned vendors.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Acquire general working knowledge of multiple categories, products and manufacturer base – be proficient in each to work with customers. 
  • Works closely with SPR Senior management, National Accounts, multiple manufacturers, and customers to develop and maintain their merchandise assortment.
  • Form and maintain appropriate manufacturer and customer relationships.  Strong interface and rapport with manufacturers in sourcing, price negotiations, program negotiation strategies and other necessary tactics to meet SPR and/or specific customers’ needs.
  • Data management and report building for SPR internal, customers and manufacturers.
  • Periodic travel to customers, tradeshows, manufacturers etc.
  • Spreadsheet and analytical projects
  • Specify product assortments to meet customer sales and marketing objectives

  • Price Strategies – participate in the analysis and formation of SPR pricing strategy; manage the implementation of such strategy within assigned projects.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent from four-year College or technical school; and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

  Experience required in one or more following:

  • 2-5 years related experience in retail purchasing experience, or, 2-5 years related experience in product development with a manufacturer. 
  • Office supplies product and manufacturer knowledge would be preferable

 

Language Ability:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Math Ability:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to calculate mark up and gross profit margins.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Spreadsheets, Internet, E-mail
  • Microsoft Access a plus

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Indirectly supervises 1 employee in the Merchandising Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; complaints and resolving problems.
