Job Description

Motion Industries Engineers provide the highest levels of knowledge and skills to design and test systems that will enhance our ability to meet the needs of our customers.   • Custom design of industrial machinery, particularly hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical control systems
    • Identification and selection of the best components for each application
      • Sizing hydraulic pumps, motors, and cylinders, and sizing of mechanical drive components including gearboxes, conveyor systems, chain and sprocket, V-belts and sheaves, and load and speed calculations
        • Computer-Aided Design (CAD), both 2D and 3D drawings, piping schematics, electrical schematics, general-arrangement and production layout drawings, load calculations, stress analysis, and fabrication/shop drawings
          • Work closely with field sales personnel to assist in design and component selection 
          • Navigate technical data on the Internet for finding component supplier’s information and presenting and interpreting this for the sales force and customers 
          • Put together complete production bill-of-materials for the procurement of parts to build custom power units, valve manifolds, panels, and small to large pump/filter/cooling skids for hydraulic and lube oil fluids 
          • Oversee the production of these systems, process Change Orders, and handle expediting needs 
          • May require travel and specific safety training to work in dangerous and extreme environment conditions while collecting data or commissioning new systems at the customer’s location
            • Travel can be anywhere in North America; Motion is located in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico
              • Computer skills using MS Office (Access and Excel) are required
                • Technical writing and functional explanations of how components work and are integrated into industrial machinery (presentations, emails, drawings, etc. many times for non-technical audiences); This supports the sales representatives and is a critical part of the job 
                  • Involves gaining knowledge of common machinery, how factories are designed and operated, and analysis of machine performance and troubleshooting 
                    • Recommending and designing components and systems of components working together to meet customer specifications for size, layout and performance

                      • Bachelor's or Master's degree in one of the these Engineering disciplines, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial
                      • Field experience is a plus, and opportunities to see factories in operation are part of the experience working at Motion
                      A degree from an accredited College or University is required. If an applicant has ten or more years work experience in lieu of certain college credits, but desires to work full time while working toward an engineering degree, please apply.
