The Financial Shared Services Internship (FSS) is designed to prepare students for a position in a corporate environment upon graduation. The Internship is designed for students to attain professional skills and experience while assisting in the day-to-day functions within a corporate Finance department. 

The FSS Intern will be responsible for assisting with multiple projects in any financial function, process, or business unit within the Company. While the Intern will report through FSS, throughout the internship, the Intern will be exposed to several other departments within the organization and may be required to assist in other areas as necessary.

Responsibilities:

GPC Accounting Center

  • Ensures general ledger accounts are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Prepares and/or assists with consolidation, allocations, and other general ledger processes
  • Journal entry preparation and review
  • Performs account reconciliations
  • Assists subsidiaries with account analysis and research
  • Participates in development of functional specifications for projects and updates and ensures customizations are defined, documented, and tested, and conclusions are properly documented
  • Prepares integrated test plans for new processes or changes to existing systems
  • Evaluates trends, identifies and investigates unusual or unexpected account variances
  • Generates daily and monthly reports to assist in above duties
  • Prepares other management and statutory reports, as required
  • Makes recommendations to resolve issues and makes corrections, as necessary
  • Assists with monthly close process
  • Performs other accounting research as needed
  • Promotes teamwork between operational groups and departments
  • Participate in planning meetings across the department
  • Other duties as assigned 

GPC Internal Audit

  • Assist with the organization, archiving, and retention of pertinent documents and records across the organization
  • Assist with entering data into applications designed to process, analyze, and mine data for various statements and reports
  • Assist with performing audit procedures
  • Accompany GPC Internal Audit on a planned site visit (may require travel)
  • Assist with determining the objectives and risks of core and support processes that support a business strategy
  • Assist with SOX documentation and testing
  • Participate in planning meetings across the department
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Accounting or Finance, with a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project
  • Experience with or knowledge of the concepts, practices, and procedures as related to general ledger accounting
  • Possess confidence, flexibility and be a team player
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and prioritize work
  • Problem solving and general analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate with individuals across all levels of the organization
