Position Purpose:

Seeking world-class talent to join the world’s leading distributor of automotive and industrial replacement parts and value-added services operating 5,500+ locations and servicing more than 20,000 locations in the U.S and Canada. Specifically, this role will function as the head of engineering to architect the next generation commerce platforms for GPC.  Working with a highly talented team, you'll play a leadership role to build and run one of the world’s largest automotive and industrial replacement parts operations. 

This is an engineering leadership role with responsibility for driving the overall cloud platforms strategy, cloud core infrastructure foundations engineering and Site reliability Engineering for GPC’s Systems.

This individual must be a technologist & engineer at heart and be comfortable in defining the technology direction and being hands on with the execution of the strategy.  They must exhibit a deep understanding of modern technology stack and agile delivery models, demonstrated focus on customer experience, and must have a proven track record of delivering modern large scale high throughput cloud native enterprise commerce platforms and services.

Close collaboration and alignment with a wide variety of both internal stakeholders and external vendors will be required.  As such, exceptional abilities in building and maintaining strong working relationships and organizational savvy will be required.  High level communication and presentation skills are required. Ability to attract, retain, and develop engineering talent will be critical.



  • Overall cloud platforms strategy, cloud core infrastructure foundations engineering and Site reliability Engineering to help increase adoption and maturity across the organization
  • Provides leadership in technology architecture and platform design for cloud capabilities, while establishing strategy in alignment with the IT leadership team
  • Governs cloud engineering, overall taxonomy/hierarchy of setup, billing visibility for TCO by leader/business area, and operations within the company’s cloud technology and act as SME on cloud architecture, platforms and environments
  • Responsible for shaping, building, and supporting the future architecture and infrastructure necessary to ensure a smooth transition to a multi-tenant, microservices-based cloud architecture
  • Oversee design and implementation of DevOps processes, practices and tools enabling CI/CD, maximizing the speed and quality of product delivery on the cloud platform
  • Own automation for delivery of platform services using infrastructure-as-a-code
  • Lead engagement with the cloud provider account team to drive support enablement and feature enablement where gaps/needs are identified 
  • Ensure uptime/reliability of various commerce platform domain services.
  • Partner with Development to steer product roadmaps and ensure reliability, advocating for the efficient, reliable, and easy use of commerce platform services.
  • Build self-service playbooks for a platform which can be consumed across globally distributed teams
  • Collaborate with application teams, architecture, networking, cybersecurity, IT Operations, and Infrastructure to create industry best practices and service blueprints needed to manage and monitor micro-services at scale on the platform
  • Influence others using data with excellent listening skills and thoughtful, effective stakeholder management.
  • Recruit, manage, and motivate a strong cloud engineering team to develop best-in-class service offerings
  • Other duties as assigned



  • GPC has two work locations to choose from, Duluth or Atlanta office.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field (or equivalent work experience in a related field)


Desired Qualifications & Experiences: 

  • 12+ years’ experience in software engineering & technology leadership (including 8+ years in leading Cloud platforms and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams
  • Deep understanding and extensive experience working with modern Cloud Service Providers (Preferably GCP)
  • Experience with containerization with Docker or similar tools
  • Knowledge of container orchestration tools Kubernetes or similar tools
  • Good understanding of SRE principals
  • Proficient in leading at a Sr. Manager level or above within a fast-paced, multi-division, national company
  • Proficient in defining, communicating, and driving value propositions, success metrics, and outcomes
  • Proficient in shaping, aligning, and guiding execution of strategic direction for a domain or significant portfolio segment
  • Consistent track record of leadership, teamwork, and delivering high impact results
  • Knowledge of and experience with modern software engineering and DevSecOps practices and tools: source control, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, monitoring/observability, microservices architectures and containerization (for ex. GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory, SonarQube, OWASP, Ansible, Terraform etc..)
  • Knowledge of APM, observability - logging, monitoring and alerting practices
  • Experience building, scaling & securing cloud-based infrastructure, network & services
  • Must possess experience running high throughput low latency end user-facing microservices
  • Experience managing 30+ FTE team of internal and extended delivery resources
  • Ability to attract, motivate and retain world-class IT talent
