Job Relationships:
Supervised by: Education Program Manager
Supervises: None
Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with schedule varying as program requirements dictate.
Pay: 45k/yr
Position Summary:
The Empowerment Coach is responsible for delivering specialized educational programs and direct services to adult students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role includes teaching two classes instead of the standard three, allowing for additional focus on supporting curriculum development, student progress, and overall program enhancement.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Provide classroom instruction and direct hands-on activities with students, ensuring a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  2. Manage classroom behavior and implement positive behavior support strategies to promote a safe and nurturing atmosphere.
  3. Assist in lesson planning, modifying existing plans as needed, and preparing classroom materials and visual aids.
  4. Support students during recreational activities, physical exercises, therapeutic activities, and other daily tasks.
  5. Lead or accompany students on offsite learning opportunities to enhance their educational experience.
  6. Maintain detailed progress notes and documentation for each student, submitted weekly.
  7. Prepare and submit incident and concern reports as necessary.
  8. Assist with general program duties, including supervision during lunch and transition periods.
  9. Serve as a substitute for other Empowerment Coaches as needed due to PTO or unexpected absences.
  10. Create, maintain, and document student goals, tracking progress on a daily or weekly basis.
  11. Participate in curriculum development, including designing strategies and selecting materials that meet student needs.
  12. Collaborate with educational team members, therapists, and leadership to support student development and program goals.
  13. Encourage active student participation in both classroom activities and community involvement.
  14. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in the field.
  15. Maintain records in compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, completing required documentation promptly.
  16. Perform any other tasks as required by the Education Program Manager.
Community Relations:
  1. Maintain positive working relationships with other departments and referring agencies to ensure the success of the program.
  2. Represent the program at meetings and community events as requested.
Professional Development:
  1. Commit to continuous improvement by developing professional skills and staying current with industry trends.
  2. Complete required training, including First Aid, Crisis Prevention, and Safety Training.
Education & Experience:
  1. B.S. or B.A. in social services, education, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  2. At least two years of experience in social work, workforce development, or a related field.
  3. Knowledge of employment placement techniques, the local job market, and employer expectations for people with disabilities.
  4. Strong computer and communication skills, with the ability to lead presentations when required.
  5. Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of clients and leadership.
  6. Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the Mission Services Team and under the guidance of the Education Program Manager.
  7. Completion of required certifications, such as UNTWISE Job Skills, First Aid + CPR, and CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) as necessary.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  1. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  2. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
  3. Reliable personal transportation and a valid Texas driver’s license.
