The Communications Technician participates as an individual contributor to the techdash communications team.  Makes decisions affecting own work within set parameters.  Works both independently on work assignments and as a team lead at customer sites.  Accountable for quality and accuracy of own output as well as for projects while serving as a team lead.  Explains facts, practices, policies, action plans, etc. to external and internal parties.  Reviews priorities with supervisor. Join us and build your skills and expertise on-site and on-the-go.

Essential Function:

  • Executes work orders-related to deployment or first line maintenance scope on network or end customer sites for both telecom and infrastructure equipment according to scope of work, drawings and specifications, planning/service level agreements and quality standards.
  • Follows and adheres to instructions included in work orders-related to appointment and/or site access arrangements.
  • Supports and organizes on-site any necessary tests, measurements or analysis using appropriate field tools/equipment.
  • Manages assigned work orders collaborating with any stakeholder involved in the process and/or procuring necessary spare parts and/or working material.
  • Manages activities-related to spare/consumable parts.
  • Requests support from appropriate interface in case of any complex issues such as service restoration delays or repeated failures.
  • Provides clear verbal and written reporting and job status updates to managers and customers within specified timeframes.
  • Serves as lead on customer projects and directs and/or trains others.
  • Follows and applies techdash communications and any local health and safety and environmental regulations and rules.
  • Takes on-call duties for first line maintenance services when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Recommended Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proficient in using a laptop computer, cell phone with various industry specific applications, test sets, including but not limited to fiber scope, fiber cleaning kits, test phones, volt/amp meters.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable and proficient in working independently with limited direct supervision.  Effective direct daily interaction with customers and customer’s contractors. Semi routine tasks of moderate complexity requiring some discretion and judgment. Carries out tasks/activities according to assignment and set guidelines. Moderate degree of supervision and coaching needed. Demonstrates initiative and adaptability to changing business environments.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements:

  • Required - High School Diploma
  • Preferred - Associates Degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires 1-2 year or equivalent experience or related technical training
  • Preferred - OSHA 10 Certified; required OSHA 10 certification within 30-60 days of hire
  • Required - Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift, move or shift up to 60 lbs. or more weight if in conjunction with another individual required
  • Ability to carry, set up and climb an A-frame ladder up to 8 feet in height required

Other Job Requirements:

  • Ability to write, hear, understand and respond appropriately to verbal requests made in person and over the telephone in English
  • Ability to travel between job sites daily is a must; frequent overnight travel or longer is also a must
  • Must be willing to work days/nights/weekends and be on-call depending on project demands
