Job summary
The Data Quality Manager is responsible for developing and delivering data solutions to accomplish technology and business goals. Key responsibilities include data governance tasks associated with the integration, cleaning, transformation, and control of data in operational and analytics data systems. They work with stakeholders, Product Owners, and Software Engineers to aid in the governance of data to include contributing to efforts to capture and manage the control inventory, measuring effectiveness of controls, managing data quality requirements to resolve DQ gaps/issues, and managing all forms of business, technical and operational metadata.
Responsibilities
- Work with technical and operational subject matter experts to understand and collect metadata about systems, processes, reports, controls, data movement, and business terminology
- Document inventory of current state data quality controls
- Create and maintain data dictionary
- Perform root cause analysis on data issues and recommend data quality controls to resolve gaps/issues
- Design and implement data quality controls as necessary
- Work across development teams to understand and aid in data management and governance requirements
- Build / improve data governance processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, data quality controls, dependency, and workload management
- Identify gaps in data management standards adherence and work with appropriate partners to develop plans to close gaps
- Design and develop complex data quality audits using SQL to identify possible data discrepancies between the data warehouse and systems of record (EPIC, eCW, Calibrater, Clockwise, etc.)
- Perform audits, as required, to ensure quality processes exist and are being adhered to
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and document data issues from internal and external customers
- Communicate pervasiveness of data quality problems and their potential impacts, and take the lead in resolving via data integration and/or business process improvement
- Manage documentation related to data quality (data standards, definitions, DQA documents such as checklists, guidelines, manuals, templates, forms, etc.)
- Assist other departments in the design of quality edit checks, test plans, etc. to ensure data quality objectives are met, as well as participate in cross-functional teams and development/improvement task forces
- Help create processes and procedures
- Review, enhance, and update documentation workflows
Requirements
- Must Have strong data management and governance skills and experience (5+ years)
- Must Have strong experience and advanced understanding of the collection and management of metadata (as it relates to the governance of data and data quality) (5+ years)
- Must Have data management experience in an EPIC environment (3+ years)
- Must Have experience using SQL to query databases and report results in a summarized format (3+ years)
- Should have experience with, and understanding of, implementing and measuring Data Quality and Controls
- Must be able to identify, analyze and address problems to resolve issues whenever possible in way that minimizes negative impact and risk to the organization
- Strong analytical skills/problem solving/conceptual thinking
- Must be pro-active and be able to drive direction of work that needs to be completed
- Ability to work with Technical and Non-Technical business owners
- Ability to work independently on initiatives with little oversight
- Motivated and willing to learn
- Effective communication skills
- Must be comfortable in delivering messages across a wide spectrum of individuals having varying degrees of technical understanding
