The Regional Medical Director (RMD) holds a pivotal leadership role overseeing Houston’s largest Urgent Care network, currently comprising 30 operational centers, expanding to 34 by the end of 2024. The Regional Medical Director(RMD) is accountable to a Joint Venture Board comprised of executive leaders from both GoHealth Urgent Care and Memorial Hermann. The RMD provides key decision-making support to Clinical Operations leaders managing a P&L exceeding $30M. This position supports a 100+ strong Provider workforce, and the RMD is responsible for the growth, development, and selection of both clinical and operational leaders. This position requires a strong ability to collaborate across multiple organizations and the ability to prioritize key strategies to ensure the success of the joint venture partnership. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Lead, counsel, and engage a frontline clinical workforce of physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, focusing on the highest level of care and a high standard of customer satisfaction. Work directly with Regional Physician Leads (if applicable) to manage their respective regions.  

  • Direct and identify best practice standards including establishing clinical policies, procedures, rules, regulations and methods of operation related to the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Urgent Care Network.  
  • Establish quality metrics and initiate process improvement programs. Support Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network's strategy to increase exposure and to enhance the image of the Program to health care providers and residents. Participate in the development of patient education materials and seminars. 
  • Work collaboratively with the CMO and Market President of the network and the operational team to implement best practice operations for the network. 
  • Manages and collaborates with Associate Medical Director(s), if applicable, and/or Advance Practitioner Lead(s) in all clinical services for their assigned urgent care centers and geographic region.   Is primarily responsible for the quality of care and all issues related to the clinical care-givers within their assigned region.  
  • Collaborates across and within regions to share resources, implement improvement initiatives, and optimize clinical, financial, operational and customer service performance.

Strategic

 
  • Participate in strategic and operational planning related to Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Urgent Care Network.
  • Assist Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network in maintaining an effective and efficient network, including performing services in accordance with the budget of the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network.
  • Represent the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network in community activities.
  • Liaise with Memorial Hermann ED Departments, Specialists and Primary Care Physicians to ensure proper referral channels.
  • Develop relationships with local providers and service agencies to improve bi-directional patient flow. This will include Memorial Hermann -employed, as well as private practice physicians, and other sources of patient referrals as well as follow-up opportunities, such as nursing homes, community agencies, etc. 
    • Use these relationships to build new programs which support outside entities in their care missions, as well as driving new business to the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth network.
  • Collaborate with the Health System CMO and Memorial Hermann-GoHealth leadership to address site-specific issues with both targeted and generalized measures to improve performance.

Clinical

 
  • Provide direct patient care as a scheduled provider for the requisite number of hours per pay period as stipulated by leadership.
  • Work directly with Associate Medical Director(s), if applicable, and/or Advance Practice Lead(s) to ensure that all centers are appropriately staffed, in line with staffing model and needs of community.
  • Define and coordinate clinical scheduling, leave for medical staff, continuing professional education, in-service training, and appropriate coding of medical records.
  • Be a resource for covering sick-out calls both locally and across the market. 
  • Respond to volume surges and other unforeseen circumstances to preserve the patient experience and prevent patient reneging. 
  • Responds to needs and directs clinical staff during environmental and other unforeseen emergency events. 

Quality 

 
  • Responsible for the appropriateness, timeliness and effectiveness of all educational initiatives relating to the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network. 
    • Present patient education content at targeted community based forums  
    • Evaluate and maintain staff competencies through quality and PI Reviews as well as ongoing education as needed. 
    • Explore opportunities for the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network to participate in clinical trials/research studies.
    • Provide resident teaching as requested.

    • Implementation of technologies and new equipment, coupled with training in those resources
    • Directs and collaborates with Associate Medical Director(s), if applicable, and/or Advance Practitioner lead(s) in chart audits for clinical KPI monitoring at the center, organizational, and individual level.
    • Ensure that escalation protocols are being followed appropriately. 
    • Helps to develop, implement and periodically review clinical policies and procedures of the organization, as well as performance standards for providers that guide and support the provision of services to maintain and improve the quality of patient care and the proper functioning of the clinics. 

Leadership 

 
  • Assists in recruitment, provider qualification and training, maintenance of competencies, proficiency testing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluates and remediates providers in collaboration with HR and their policies on employee assessment and discipline. 

Administrative 

 
  • Cooperate with surveys and inspections related to the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network and in the implementation of any corrections or recommendations.
    • Ensure proper designees are notified of all announced and unannounced surveys and inspections of the Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Network and of all preliminary and final reports and findings resulting from such surveys and inspections and implementing of any corrections or recommendations.
  • Analyzes needs for higher or lower staffing tied to volume targets, and monitors NPS scores and complaints to identify positive and negative trends needing intervention.  
  • Participates with formal and ad hoc groups within GoHealth and the network Healthcare Partner as needed. 
  • Cooperate in the planning, investigation and installation of devices, equipment and systems, to be leased, purchased or otherwise acquired by the Memorial Hermann–GoHealth Network for use by the Program.  Advise Memorial Hermann–GoHealth Network with respect to the selection of additional or replacement equipment required.   
  • Inspect and evaluate the equipment to determine and communicate whether it is being maintained in a safe condition and being utilized in a safe and efficient mannerEnsure all repairs are made. 
  • Make periodic reports to the Memorial Hermann–GoHealth Network's medical board, corporate board or other oversight body regarding the Program's budget, quality of care, installation of devices or equipment and such other matters related to the Program as may be requested from time to time.  
  • Actively participate with Administration and the various Departments regarding:  
    • Long range planning
    • Budget planning and projection 
    • Provider Recruitment 
    • Partner and System in strategic planning 

Teaching 

 
  • Mentors new and existing employees in important aspects of care include EMR functionality, equipment use, clinical care and organizational imperatives.
    • Formal logged time spent in each assigned clinic will insure that this task is regularly accomplished

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical leadership / administrative experience preferred in emergency medicine, urgent care, or related field, preferably in a major medical center or health system, required.
  • Ability to analyze clinical data and convey findings in an effective manner to elicit change.
  • Successful track record of building, developing and leading high-performing medical teams.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication.
  • Proven track record of flexibility and fluidity in managing many responsibilities.
  • Effective team leadership and performance management skills.
  • Possesses the tenure, knowledge, and skillset necessary to bring authority to new and existing relationships, both internal and external.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
 
  • Must have current state medical licenses at time of start.
  • Current Board-Certification in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or combined Med/Peds.
