General Description:
The Area Medical Director is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all medical care provided at the center level, and for the quality of services rendered. He/She is responsible for promoting high standards of practice through development of policies, protocols, practice guidelines, and by participating in rigorous performance improvement monitoring. He/She has authority to act on all performance improvement and administrative issues in regards to respective supervised providers.

Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited school of medicine, board certified in a specialty field of medicine, and currently licensed by the respective State Board of Medicine to practice medicine in the state(s) he/she is responsible for working or supervising others in.
• Currently DOT certified
• Currently certified in ACLS and PALS unless ABEM certified.
• Working knowledge of HIPPA, OSHA, and State/Federal laws governing medical services.
• Strong commitment to customer service and excellence in healthcare.
• Administrative, management, or supervisory experience.
• Exceptional leadership, mediation abilities, and multi-tasking skills required.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Computer literate in electronic mail, word processing, and office management system software.
• Adequate vision, speech, hearing, and overall physical condition to meet core duties of the position.
Working Relationships:
• Reports directly to, and interfaces with the VP of Clinical and Provider Quality, and Physician-Owners of Private Office Practice. Oversees that the medical practitioners, clinical and office staff provide outstanding patient care at all times.
• Additional support will be provided from the SVP of Medical Affairs, Director of Provider Affairs, Provider Liaisons, Provider Trainers, VP of Clinical Operation, VP of Operations, Area Managers, and Center Managers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Activities
• In conjunction with the VP of Clinical and Provider Quality and VP of Operations; assist in the research, development, and writing or revising of new or existing policies, protocols, and practice guidelines related to patient care and medical provider employment.
• Assist in the implementation of all MedExpress policies and procedures as they pertain to patient care and provider employment.
• Organize, direct, and integrate practices to assure continued compliance with applicable State and Federal laws governing medical services.
• Participate in site review by State, Federal, or other regulatory agencies.
• Organize, direct, and integrate the medical arm of Operations with other departments within the MedExpress organization.
• Maintain an effective working and interpersonal relationship with the medical colleagues, administrative personnel, hospital systems, and patients in order to achieve maximum operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
• Mediate professional disagreements.
• Participate in MedExpress marketing activities.
• Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring processes.
• Participate in patient satisfaction projects as developed by MedExpress.
• In conjunction with the Area Managers and VP of Operations, assists in developing and meeting budgetary goals.
• Develop, oversee, and participate in projects that ensure the cost-effectiveness of care provided by medical providers and centers.
• Attend local and national meetings and conferences to remain current regarding issues relevant to the performance of duties.
Operational Efficiency of Clinical Operations
• Provide oversight and supervision of providers in regional centers to ensure high quality medically appropriate care while exceeding patient’s expectations.
• Organize, direct, and implement provider staffing and scheduling, following set labor model guidelines, ensuring efficient productivity as well as providing adequate medical personnel to render care to patients.
• Remain up to date on issues pertaining to CorporateCare clients, proper billing procedures, and documentation guidelines.
• Promote provider support for diagnostic and E&M coding accuracy, adherence with the corporate compliance plan, and attainment of productivity targets.
• Foster collaborative relationships with hospital systems and community medical practitioners so as to meet goals set by MedExpress and promote the high quality urgent care services the organization offers and enhance the quality and convenience of patient care.
• In conjunction with VP of Operations, Area Managers, and Center Managers, assist in supporting and staffing market-based worksite, mobile, and episodic care services.
Medical Staff Supervision, Evaluation, and Development
• Provide oversight of delivery of medical care by clinical staff through direct supervision, evaluations, and audits; serve as a mentor and manage the resolution of practice related problems of provider staff.
• Utilize the processes set forth in the Provider Evaluation and Development Program including, but not limited to, participating in formal orientation of new providers and conducting ongoing performance evaluations for all providers.
• Provide professional oversight for staff physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
• Monitor compliance with MedExpress treatment guidelines, policies, and protocols.
• Assure that the quality and appropriateness of patient care are monitored and evaluated and that appropriate actions based on findings are taken on a consistent basis.
• Report quality of care issues promptly to appropriate individuals, including VP of Clinical and Provider Quality and CMO.
• Identify and correct deficiencies in medical policies, protocols, and guidelines utilizing performance improvement processes.
• Evaluate and report the effectiveness of corrective actions resulting from performance improvement processes.
• In conjunction with the Provider Training Specialists, provide new provider orientation; train or provide adequate training for all providers; coach, counsel, and motivate providers; evaluate providers; investigate complaints or performance concerns; implement disciplinary actions and termination processes when appropriate and in consultation with Human Resources and Medical Leadership.
Management of Quality of Medical Care
• Participate in Risk Management activities.
• Monitor patterns and appropriateness of specialist, diagnostic, and hospital based referrals.
• Organize, implement, and direct a quality improvement system incorporating quality outcome measures.
• Develop and update medical care protocols and procedures.
• Develop and provide oversight of quality improvement studies.
• Serve as laboratory director for CLIA accreditation.
• Collaborate in the development of a continuing medical education policy and assures oversight of compliance.
• Participate in review of patient satisfaction surveys.
• Participate in Peer Review and Root Cause Analyses as necessary
• Oversee patient issues and concerns related to their medical care; taking steps to resolve patient complaints and likewise takes actions for patient dismissal if appropriate.
Delivery of Patient Care
• Responsible for providing exceptional treatment and communication of care options to every MedExpress patient.
• Demonstrate mastery of all MedExpress medical policies, procedures, and treatment guidelines.
Community Outreach
• Serves as liaison to medical community-at-large.
• Assures consistency of community awareness of MedExpress mission, vision, and values.
• Participates in community outreach activities as requested by administration.
Working Conditions:
Non-Center Based. Requires: the ability to sit at a computer for hours at a time (with some bending and stooping), travel to Centers (if so, the noise level is moderate and there is potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne

walk-in care centers under the name “MedExpress”. The Private Office Practice has complete authority with regards to all medical decision-making and patient care.
MSO shall, in no way, determine or set the methods, standards, or conduct of the practice of medicine or healthcare provided at, by, or through any Private Office
Practice, or by any of its professionals. MSO provides consultation services and offers recommendations through its Chief Medical Officer for the Private Office
Practice to consider, reject, revise and/or adopt as it deems fit. Area Medical Director is an employee of Private Office Practice. The physician-owners of Private Office
Practice have reviewed and approved this job description, and have directed that Area Medical Director interface with, and report to agents, servants and/or employees
of MSO, to the extent set forth above, in support of management services provided by MSO for which Private Office Practice has contracted.
