YOUR ROLE

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting at GivePower. This individual will touch nearly every portion of the organization, as well as the subsidiaries in Colombia, Kenya, and Haiti. The primary goal of the Accounting Specialist is to ensure donor funds collected and recorded properly. This position will have deadlines, manage a multitude of accounting activities, and work in a fast-paced environment. If you thrive on variety, personal growth, and love the world of accounting, this role is for you. We anticipate this position becoming full-time during Q1 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the controller to ensure monthly close is clean and timely
  • Support accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of bill posting
  • Assist in generating donor invoices and sending statements
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • Support fixed asset reporting, budget and forecasting activities
  • Collaborate with other departments and subsidiaries to achieve overall goals
  • Provide detailed analyses and explanations of all posted transactions
  • Advise others regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Process expense reports and reconcile credit cards
  • Utilize Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other programs to create, edit, and manage various documents such as correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Assist with the creation, review, and editing of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist with purchasing and supply chain functions

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in accounting
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment or nonprofit space is preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent time management
  • Familiarity with Xero accounting software
  • Strong Excel skills
Compensation: $25-$30 per hour DOE
