You are a commercially minded manager who can juggle various projects and can provide expert prioritization for your team. You enjoy being challenged and thrive on dealing with the unexpected. The Research Manager is a player-coach, responsible for the overall management and supervision of a team of North American Research Editors under the Sales Organization. The Research Manager directs and coaches Research Editors to ensure the quantity and quality of visual research is consistent with the overall visual needs of the client and ensures the appropriate research, clearance and licensing solutions are provided to clients. The Manager sets goals and standards for the team, looks for efficiencies and best practices, and strives to increase performance. In addition to team management, the Research Manager works in consultation with key internal stakeholders and with clients to ensure the best visual content is accessible and that research is provided to the appropriate customer base with adequate coverage based on project qualification. You will report to Director, Research and Clearance Services. 


Your Next Challenge: 

  • Direct, manage, and coach by providing strategic business plans and performance objectives that result in the development of a highly effective team of content experts
  • Set team goals and standards, look for efficiencies, best practices, and strive to increase performance 
  • Develop and manage project scope and budget with clients and sales teams for large scale research, clearance and licensing projects 
  • Manage, oversee and evaluate Rights & Clearance (intellectual property) consultations: research copyright holders, identify personality and property rights, analyze license histories, negotiate fees, license external 3rd party content, and provide Image Guarantee assessments 
  • Create, develop and provide reports to ensure the quantity and quality of Research and Rights & Clearance projects are aligned with various business needs 
  • Manages the team’s daily workflow by prioritizing workloads, always striving to maximize revenue opportunities and productivity while delighting customers 
  • Follows up with both client and sales teams to ensure that image selections and Rights & Clearance solutions meet or exceed expectations and, when appropriate, results in a sale 

What You’ll Need

  • B.A./B.S. with major in photography/film, graphic design or advertising or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant and/or management experience in this field 
  • Ability to motivate, counsel and coach a team to maximize performance and foster a team environment 
  • Proven ability to manage large scale projects on time, in scope, and on budget 
  • Strong knowledge of licensing fundamentals and intellectual property rights 
  • Experience in customer service 
  • Extensive knowledge of photography/film and intellectual property. Industry–related experience (stock photography/video, media, film production, publishing, advertising or knowledge of Getty Images brands) preferred 
  • General knowledge of photography, history, geography, current events and popular culture 
  • Strong ability to creatively solve problems and find solutions
