JOB SUMMARY

The Purchasing and Inventory Expediter is responsible for assuring purchase orders and their information are provided in a timely manner. Expediters work with the buyers and vendors in supporting various transactional and planning functions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Plan and update inventory items for assigned commodities/vendors; includes working with management to maintain the appropriate safety stock levels to support the Business Plan
  • Collaborate with suppliers to provide timely order updates and adjust shipment schedules
  • Analyze shipping history and trends to improve purchasing processSet up new items and product level details as needed
  • Ensure purchase orders are confirmed and deliveries are scheduled and maintained to meet production requirements
  • Obtain pricing and lead-times on Requests for Quotations
  • Maintain inbound shipment log within Company direct system
  • Provide feedback to sales and operations regarding late shipments or inadequate stock availability
  • Review MRP requirements for assigned parts and make necessary adjustments to fulfill immediate needs
  • Identify and participate in supplier selection and evaluation process for new and existing suppliers
  • Manage supplier performance related to delivery, quality, etc.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree in related field preferred
  • At least three years of supply chain, customer service or purchasing experience required

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of purchasing methods and inventory management concepts in a distribution and production environment
  • Understanding of logistics, basic accounting principles and warehouse operations
  • Understanding of profitability and financial impact of purchasing decisions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong verbal and written skills
