Job Description

GEI is seeking a motivated Geotechnical, Geo-Structural, or Water Resources Senior Practice Leader looking for a career opportunity geared toward growth in GEI’s Knoxville office. The selected candidate will be a member of the seller-doer senior management team with direct responsibility to strategically grow business for our South Region. Our Knoxville location currently offers a variety of geotechnical and construction oversight/quality assurance services including geotechnical exploration, geotechnical remedial design, slope stability analysis, retaining wall design, and construction quality assurance oversight and testing. We are also interested in complimentary practice areas aligned with GEI’s broader services. Knoxville staff implements geotechnical field investigations for Energy, Civil, and Water Resources clients located in the Knoxville and Tennessee Valley area. Our clients include government, private, and public clients within the markets we serve. Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Grow the Knoxville practice within GEI’s geotechnical, water resources, or civil design (www.geiconsultants.com) expertise by developing new and existing clients and markets. 
  • Coordinate business development activities within practice; identify key clients / business areas, growth strategy, and capture strategy.
  • Exemplify commitment to technical excellence to meet client-expectations and satisfaction, and profitable project management. Serve as a technical leader and mentor.
  • Coordinate growth of practice across the region. Participate in recruiting efforts and identification and integration of new staff.
  • Lead proposal efforts, presentations, maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participate and encourage active participation in client-based professional organizations, and make presentations at industry events.
  • Manage the technical, financial and client relationship aspects of a variety of projects with a geographic emphasis in the Knoxville, Tennessee, and southeastern regional market.
  • Serve as a role model for leadership, company culture, and values.
  • Contribute to strategic planning at the office, regional and national level.
  • Work with marketing and others to develop GEI “branding” within practice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Leader recognized for technical excellence and the development of client-focused, creative, and practical solutions with a focus on growth and developing project teams.
  • Seller-Doer looking for the right company to grow your career and practice area with established network of clients and contacts, and a successful track record in business development.
  • Documented success in growing practice area and client relationships.
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary design teams with the ability to be conversant in a variety of technical fields.
  • Collegial team builder with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Broad local/regional understanding of discipline needs and emerging trends.
  • Ability to identify project opportunities and lead teams across a large geography.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to GEI branch offices and client sites as required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related fields required; Master’s Degree preferred. 
  • Professionally Licensed in Tennessee, surrounding states preferred.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
