GEI has an outstanding opportunity for a mid-level (3+ years of experience) California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental planning professional to join a dynamic and growing team of professionals in our Oakland, CA office. The position involves executing work on projects located throughout California and the West in the water, environmental, energy, climate change, habitat conservation and restoration, and other sectors. The position has tremendous short- and long-term growth opportunities for your career within GEI, including stock ownership. As part of our multidisciplinary project teams, you will have an important role in executing projects; interfacing with existing and new clients to ensure their environmental compliance needs are met; conducting and coordinating environmental analyses for CEQA, NEPA, and other environmental regulations; and working as part of our team for collaborative problem-solving. The position is a regular, full-time role.
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection, conducting site visits, performing data and literature review, interfacing with clients and teaming partners, and coordinating and preparing CEQA/NEPA compliance documentation.
  • Serve as environmental planner, section writer, and project coordinator on primarily water resources but also natural resources and energy projects requiring environmental compliance work.
  • Assist senior project managers with project management and coordination duties to support our clients and larger projects, including coordination with GEI’s internal team and external clients and teaming partners.
  • Support teams preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, and competitive proposals.
  • As part of integrated teams, work closely and collaboratively with other project GEI environmental specialists, engineers, planners, project managers, and project directors to execute projects effectively and efficiently. 
Minimum Qualifications 
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with writing environmental documents and conducting environmental analysis and experience successfully preparing CEQA and/or NEPA documents.
  • BA, BS, MA, MS, or Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Environmental or Biological Sciences, Urban Planning, Geography, or other natural or physical sciences degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in at least one of the following technical areas is ideal: water resources/hydrology, water quality, geology, air quality, climate change, and/or biological resources.
  • Outstanding problem-solving, organization, coordination, writing, people, and verbal communication skills; solid work ethic; and ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with others as part of multidisciplinary teams.  
  • Excellent quality of work and technical experience a must.
  • Successful track record of adherence to project budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
