GEI has an immediate opening for a Civil Engineer I/II (Hydraulics) seeking experience in the design and construction of dams, levees, hydraulic structures, and stormwater management and riverine systems to support the Denver office’s Dams and Water Resources business. The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and a focus on collaboration while providing technical, quality, and safety assistance on projects and pursuits. 
 
The Civil Engineer I/II (Hydraulics) will work with an interdisciplinary team that includes civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers to complete hydrologic and hydraulic engineering tasks and develop appropriate designs for water supply, flood control, pumped storage, and hydroelectric projects. 
 
Under supervision of senior staff, the Civil Engineer I/II (Hydraulics) will be responsible for producing and/or reviewing engineering analyses, reports, construction drawings, specifications, and other deliverables.  
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • Working on preliminary through final engineering designs; developing design recommendations and producing design deliverables; serving as a project hydraulic engineer supporting the hydraulic lead and/or engineer of record.
  • Performing hydrologic analyses of design precipitation and flood flows to support the hydraulic design of dam structures and drainage infrastructure, across a range of locations and climates.
  • Performing hydraulic modeling and hydraulic analyses to support feasibility and economic studies of water supply and hydroelectric projects, including spillways, energy dissipation structures, stream diversions, surface drainage systems, levees and other related floodplain management structures, sedimentation ponds, water storage reservoirs and outlet works, and riverine studies.
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations of evaluation results to internal team
  • Supporting data management and analysis, technical report development, and assisting in preparation of technical presentations and proposals to clients and regulators.
  • Coordinating with the Design and Project Management Team to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery. 
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field, required.
  • Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in Hydraulic Engineering or closely related field, preferred. 
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) designation, required.
  • 0-2 years of previous professional experience in civil engineering.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with standard hydraulic modeling programs including HEC-RAS (both 1D and 2D versions), or Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software.
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of GIS tools, including spatial analysis tools and the ability to create, analyze and convert topographic and bathymetric surfaces within and export out of GIS.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
