GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI) is seeking an entry level Civil/Geological/Geotechnical Engineer. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing engineering design and field construction efforts. The Candidate will be involved in projects related to dams and hydropower facilities, solid waste landfills, shallow and deep foundations, and earth retention systems. The Candidate may perform engineering data management, hydrology & hydraulic evaluations, geotechnical & geostructural evaluations, and technical report development. Field activities will include coordination and documentation of geotechnical and environmental soil borings; installation of wells and geotechnical instrumentation; collection of groundwater, sediment, and soil samples; oversight and documentation during construction. Activities may also include inspections, permitting and record document development for dams and landfills.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Support the development of decision-making documents such as feasibility studies and cost estimates, design and procurement documents such as engineering drawings and specification packages, and tools for contractor bid evaluation and oversight.
- Support site investigations and site assessments including soil borings and testing, environmental sampling, facility inspections, and technical oversight of subcontractors.
- Collect geotechnical/environmental/structural data at sites.
- Support data management and engineering analysis, technical report development, and assist in preparation of technical presentations and proposals to clients and regulators.
- Performing construction observation and documentation, materials testing services, and data collection for dams, landfills, buildings, and other infrastructure projects.
- This position has a field component, so travel for extended durations may be required. Candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering; M.S. is desirable.
- E.I.T. is desirable, and ability to work towards professional registration.
- 0-3 years of previous professional experience in civil/geotechnical/environmental engineering and consulting; knowledge and familiarity with engineering design processes.
- Ability to successfully formulate and execute technical assignments with minimal oversight and direction; desire to acquire and apply new skills and techniques with application to project assignments.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer applications. CAD, Civil 3D, and GIS experience is desirable.
- Experience with geotechnical analysis software, such as GeoStudio (SEEP/W, SLOPE/W or SIGMA/W) is desirable.
- Ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere.
- Willingness and ability to travel for extended field assignments.
- Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight.
- 40 hr. HAZWOPER is desirable.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
