Our dams and coastal engineering design groups are seeking Civil or Geotechnical Engineers in our Wisconsin and Michigan offices. This role is an opportunity to partner with senior technical experts to drive solutions for our State Parks, local government and private clients seeking resolution to shoreline erosion issues along Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Erie shorelines. You will also support our exciting dams practice working with rehabilitation and removal experts across the region. You will work on a variety of projects including dam remediation, stabilization, waterfront parks, living shorelines, coastal revetment/retaining walls and coastal resiliency and storm-hardening projects.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Execute technical projects and assignments in coordination with project managers and support staff.
  • Prepare detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and present technical information to peers and clients;
  • Prepare design documents including drawings, technical specifications, basis of design documents, bid documents and project schedules.
  • Self-motivated. The candidate will have the confidence and motivation to independently research, determine and calculate answers that lead to independent decisions on various work/client related issues. The candidate is not necessarily expected to act as the Engineer of Record on projects but will interact and report to engineers who act in that capacity.
  • Stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP). The ideal candidate will have experience preparing an SWPPP for various infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with shallow foundation and deep foundation analysis is a plus.
  • Ability to classify soils and is comfortable designing a subsurface exploration program to meet the design needs of the project.
  • Design experience. The candidate will have experience (at least 5-10 years) with designing civil plans and specifications. Ideally the experience is related to dams, shoreline stabilization or erosion protection projects.
  • Project Management. The ideal candidate would have project management experience, including managing project budgets and clients.
  • Construction oversight/field engineering experience with a focus on shorelines is desirable.
  • CAD experience. The candidate will have experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, with some ability to analyze/convert surfaces, particularly to support modeling program demands.
  • Grant writing and/or administration. Experience either with writing or administering state and local grants is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of State, Federal and Local regulatory and permitting requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of professional experience demonstrating skills mentioned above;
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources related field, M.S. considered a plus.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain in two (2) years.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel on work assignments. 20-30% travel is possible.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight and work in inclement conditions.
