Laboratory Technician

GEI’s in-house laboratory conducts biological, chemical, and toxicological testing services. Our laboratory services include identification of benthic invertebrates, ambient and whole effluent toxicity (WET) testing, and low-level nutrient chemistry. This position is primarily based in the bioassay portion of the laboratory, with opportunities for cross-training if desired.
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, or ecology required. Coursework in ecotoxicology desired. Previous experience working with FIAlyzer instrumentation and/or WET testing is a plus.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Conduct WET testing
- Recognize when others need assistance and be able to jump in and help out wherever needed
- Along with other lab staff, maintain laboratory’s Ceriodaphnia dubia cultures on a daily basis
- Conduct basic chemistry analysis
- Conduct low-level nutrient analysis
- Mix laboratory-grade water
- Candidates will be responsible for basic laboratory tasks and duties including cleaning and maintenance of equipment
- The ability to perform well in a team environment is essential
- Applicants must be flexible
- Once fully trained, weekend work is required
- This is a full-time, benefited position
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic water chemistry
- Experience conducting highly technical laboratory analyses
- Experience working with standard operating procedures and USEPA-approved methods
- Working knowledge of Excel
