We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer that will join our Infrastructure Renewal, Design and Construction Team to provide structural engineering solutions to primarily municipal clients for a variety of municipal infrastructure including bridges, roads, water treatment/distribution, and wastewater collection/treatment. This role will involve in all phases of capital delivery projects including planning, condition assessment, preliminary/detailed design, approvals, tendering, shop drawing review, and construction inspection.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Complete structural condition assessment of various structural assets including buildings, valve chambers, bridges and other structures.
- Complete and review detailed structural engineering design calculations and drawings as prepared by technologists, EITs and other Professional Engineers.
- Prepare professional communications such as letters, technical memoranda and reports for client deliverables.
- Contribute to business development through preparation of work plans, fee estimates and formal proposals in response to RFPs.
- Prepare structural engineering drawings and design reports.
- Develop cost estimates and construction specifications.
- Support the permitting and approvals processes including building permit applications.
- Inspect construction activities, review shop drawings, and provide contract administration support.
- Mentor and support young staff in their career development, as well as receive mentoring and support for your own development.
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- 7+ years of experience in structural engineering design and construction.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario's Structural Manual, Ontario Provincial Standards and applicable legislation around bridge and culvert replacement and rehabilitation.
- Experience with OSIM inspections and structural rehabilitation projects.
- Experience with administration of construction contracts and on-site construction inspection.
- Strong organizational, oral, written communication and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and finite element modeling software.
- Motivation to broaden experience in the areas of design, construction, project management, operations, and supervision within a multi-disciplinary consulting environment.
