Your Role.
 
GEI Consultants Inc. is seeking a full time Consulting Arborist to support our natural heritage team on projects including land development, linear and non-linear infrastructure, ecological restoration and construction monitoring. The Consulting Arborist would work collaboratively with the natural heritage team and other technical disciplines in Ontario to assist with field work including tree inventories and woodland assessments, as well report and figure preparation, field data management and project management.
 
GEI’s natural heritage team includes expertise in terrestrial and aquatic ecology, species at risk, landscape architecture, climate change, Indigenous engagement, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, and fluvial geomorphology. 
 
Primary Responsibilities: 
 
Collaborate and coordinate with all GEI disciplines to provide arboricultural support, including: 
  • Prepare and appropriately scope proposals/terms of reference for project opportunities; 
  • Collaborating with all GEI disciplines, as well as clients, to conduct tree inventories, woodland assessments, tree risk assessment and tree valuations in accordance with applicable guidelines, by-laws and BMPs; 
  • Ability to interpret municipal guidelines and by-laws, as well as undertake agency consultation to help the project team prepare and submit high quality deliverables; 
  • Prepare, coordinate and review Arborist Reports and Tree Preservation/Protection Plans, as well as compensation/planting plans; 
  • Work closely with CAD and GIS teams to prepare figures and drawings as required;
  • QA/QC of field data, and project deliverables; 
  • Managing projects within project budgets and scope; 
  • Supervision and mentorship of junior staff, as well as delegation. 
Qualifications: 
  • ISA Certified Arborist credentials (required); 
  • 3-5 years professional experience in a field and office setting as an ISA Certified Arborist; 
  • Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in Environmental Sciences/Studies, Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Biology, Ecological Restoration or equivalent; 
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) and Tree Appraisal Qualification (TAQ) considered an asset; 
  • Experience using GPS units; 
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and time management skills; 
  • Experience managing projects and clients; 
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings, detailing and specifications; 
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or GIS applications and other plugins considered an asset; 
  • Proficient with MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); 
  • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods during inclement weather;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
Other Experience Considered Beneficial: 
  • Experience with other flora and fauna surveys such as, Ecological Land Classification (ELC), botanical survey experience and amphibian breeding surveys
