GEI has an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer IV seeking experience in the design and construction of dams, levees, and other hydraulic structures to support the Denver office’s Dams and Water Resources practice. The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and a focus on collaboration while providing technical, quality, and safety assistance on projects and pursuits.
The Structural Engineer IV will work with an interdisciplinary team that includes civil, geotechnical, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineers to complete structural engineering tasks and develop appropriate designs for water supply, flood control, storage, and hydroelectric projects.
Under supervision of senior staff, the Structural Engineer IV will be responsible for producing and reviewing engineering analyses, reports, construction drawings, specifications, and other deliverables.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Support evaluation and design efforts for structural steel, reinforced concrete, dams, excavation support systems, foundations, and other above and below grade structures.
- Use structural software to perform various analyses ranging from pseudo-static stability analyses to two- and three-dimensional finite element analyses.
- Work on preliminary through final engineering designs; developing design recommendations and producing design deliverables; serving as a project structural engineer supporting the structural lead and/or engineer of record.
- Perform and review complex calculations in compliance with applicable building codes and standards, and specifications.
- Coordinate project submittals and facilitate regulatory agency approvals.
- Mentor junior staff.
- Assist Project Managers in project management duties including review of project metrics, task management, develop billing documents, and management of staff resources.
- Compile, write and prepare reports that summarize data and design in a technically sound, clear, and concise manner.
- Coordinate with the Design and Project Management Team to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
- M.S. in Structural or Civil (structural emphasis) Engineering with 5+ years related experience or B.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) with 7+ years equivalent work experience.
- Hydraulic structures experience a plus, but not required.
- Professional Engineer certification in Colorado or ability to acquire within 6 months. PE certification in California is a plus.
- 5+ years experience using Revit and/or CAD to complete project documents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with analysis and design software (SAP2000, STAAD, Risa, Wallap, Tekla Tedds, etc.). Experience with Lusas and LS-Dyna is a plus.
- A strong proficiency in the development and use of advanced FEA methods and software for the analysis of various types of structures subjected to extreme loads.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-office team environment and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work in the field year-round and in inclement weather.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
