Description

Your role at GEI.

GEI Consultants Canada is seeking a Junior Water/Wastewater Designer to join our growing Water & Wastewater team in the Guelph office. This is an opportunity for an early‑career engineer or technologist to build hands-on experience in the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater distribution, collection, and treatment systems that support healthy, sustainable communities across Southwestern Ontario.

Working alongside experienced engineers, technologists, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will contribute to design development, technical drawings, approvals, and project coordination, while gaining hands-on experience in a wide range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

This role offers opportunities to build skills in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, hydraulic modelling, design calculations, and permitting processes, along with exposure to fieldwork, construction‑phase engineering, and multidisciplinary collaboration. You’ll develop a strong foundation in decentralized and municipal system design and be well positioned to grow into more advanced design and project coordination responsibilities.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist in the design and drafting of water and wastewater distribution, collection, and treatment systems under the guidance of senior engineers, designers, and technicians.
  • Prepare and update engineering drawings, plans, and layouts using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit software.
  • Participate in field investigations to support design decisions and understand system operation and performance.
  • Collect, organize, and document water and wastewater system data for analysis and reporting.
  • Contribute to technical reports, design briefs, regulatory submissions, and tender packages.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams to ensure design accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Support construction administration and site inspection activities when required.
  • Build technical and design skills through hands‑on project work, mentorship, and exposure to a variety of water and wastewater infrastructure systems.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in civil, water, or wastewater design (co-op experience considered an asset).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or Revit for preparing engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with water and wastewater infrastructure systems is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
  • Interest in developing technical expertise and growing within the water/wastewater field.
  • Physical and environmental requirements for this position are available upon request.
