Digital, Data and Technology Profession


We work collaboratively across government to help departments attract, develop and retain the people and skills they need in digital, data and technology. Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) are a core part of the Civil Service functional model.

With technologies constantly improving and increasing demand for public services to be delivered online, the GDS Academy was set up to increase the internal capability and skills of the public sector.


We train people on topics, behaviours, tools, techniques and technologies across the digital, data and technology environment.


The post holder’s contribution in supporting the GDS Academy will make a difference to the ways Government interacts with the millions of citizens in the UK that rely on us and expect to be able to interact using digital channels. Our current main locations are Leeds, London, Stockport (soon to be Central Manchester) and Newcastle.


The GDS Academy team is relatively small and we have a strong focus on user needs, team working, strategic influencing and developing professional capability.  This role will ensure you have plenty of opportunities to develop your own networks and career whilst making a real difference in delivering the Government’s digital strategy.


The Role


This role is a key role within the GDS Academy Team’s delivery function, delivering an excellent level of customer service to cross Government users and stakeholders.


This is a busy and varied role and we need a highly motivated individual who is able to work under pressure to meet the growing demand for GDS Academy courses and is willing to make improvements to processes and be flexible and adaptable.


A highly motivated, self-starter who enjoys taking on new tasks, sometimes at short notice and is comfortable working in a classroom environment on a daily basis and able to help build effective teams. Excellent interpersonal skills are required with responsibility for handling any conflicts and creating a positive working environment. 


The role will be based in Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester or London providing support to all Academy locations. 


Key Responsibilities

Working alongside the GDS Academy Facilitator, the post holder will:


  • support the planning and preparation for smooth delivery of a range of courses making sure all equipment and materials are available;
  • contribute to the delivery of blended development interventions to students individually and in collaboration with colleagues;
  • support the identification and resolution / escalation of people and process issues where necessary;
  • collaborate with other GDS Academy Learning Associate colleagues and engage in events to ensure that a consistently high standard of delivery is maintained for customers;
  • contribute to the delivery schedule planning process and design/development of learning interventions and exercises; and
  • use agreed evaluation practices to review the effectiveness of individual events and as a whole to ensure that the standard of delivery is maintained or improved

  • previous experience of consultancy, design, delivery and evaluation of learning interventions;
  • experience of using processes and tools to support agile methodologies; and
  • experience of using Google’s suite of intelligent apps i.e. Gmail, Drive and Docs.
