What you'll be doing:

You’ll be extending and maintaining the financial backend that powers our clients. This includes the software that processes card transactions and bank transfers, as well as the underlying infrastructure.

A Typical Day:

  • Extending and redesigning our backend processes (financial or infrastructural)

  • Debugging and fixing bugs in our backend processes

  • Building new backend processes

  • Interfacing with the rest of the company (both technical and non-technical divisions)

  • Continuously striving to be a better engineer and steward of our platform

  • Mentor other engineers, support the technical culture and help grow the team

  • Interact with customers for demos, trainings, integration of the solution and/or product(s) into customer's solution, architect solutions for customers and resolve customer's problems

  • Generate, enhance and promote ideas for useful new projects and technologies

You:

  • You obsess about details: financial, performance, implementation (regardless of whether we wrote the software). When needed, you roll up your sleeves and pull apart low-level details and complicated business logic.

  • You use the right tool for the job.

  • You can switch contexts easily. You actually like discussing financial edge cases with the Finance department, debating the merits of how Python implements associative arrays with another engineer, and advising our clients on the feasibility of new features (this is a normal day for our backend engineers).

  • You write code and documentation to be reread.

  • You’re involved in all stages of the software lifecycle: From inception and requirements gathering, to development and testing, to deployment and maintenance.

What you will need:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent. (“Equivalent” typically means at least a bachelors in a technical field with significant programming experience.)

  • 6+ years of software development experience.

  • Strong understanding of a modern programming language

  • At least 2 out of 4: (Due to the fast-paced nature of Galileo, this is a hard requirement.)

    • Ability to develop in Python

    • Ability to develop in C or C++

    • Ability to both design schema and query data in a full-featured implementation of SQL

    • Ability to develop software in Linux

  • Algorithms and Data Structures

  • Software engineering skills like source control, testing, triage, etc

  • Bonus knowledge in these technologies and areas:

    • Concurrency

    • Cryptography

    • Database Query Optimization

    • Linux internals

    • NoSQL Databases

    • Oracle PL/SQL

    • Message Brokers like Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, and ZeroMQ
