Role Purpose
The Maintenance Operative is responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation, safety, and upkeep of the warehouse and office facilities at our Coventry site. This role supports business continuity by maintaining building infrastructure, equipment, and systems, while proactively identifying and resolving maintenance issues. They will play a key role in creating a safe, functional, and well-maintained working environment for all staff and visitors.
What You’ll Do:
- Carry out routine inspections of the warehouse and office facilities to identify maintenance needs or safety issues
- Perform general repairs and maintenance tasks including plumbing, basic electrical work, carpentry, and decorating
- Maintain and repair warehouse equipment, fixtures, and fittings
- Ensure all building systems (lighting, heating, ventilation, etc.) are functioning effectively
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from colleagues and management
- Liaise with external contractors when specialist repairs or servicing are required
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting basic risk assessments where necessary
- Maintain records of maintenance work, inspections, and service schedules
- Support the implementation of preventative maintenance programmes
- Monitor and manage maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment inventory
- Assist with office moves, layout changes, and minor installations
- Ensure the external areas (e.g., car park, walkways, loading bays) are safe, clean, and well maintained
- Identify opportunities for improvements to facilities, efficiency, and cost savings
- Support emergency response actions (e.g., leaks, power issues, safety hazards)
What You’ll Bring:
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, general repairs)
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues efficiently
- Good understanding of health and safety practices and regulations
- Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
- Good communication skills to interact with staff, contractors, and management
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Basic record-keeping and organisational skills
- Physically capable of carrying out manual tasks (lifting, moving equipment, working at height where required)
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying issues
- Basic IT skills (e.g., logging jobs, emails, simple reporting)
- Be able to demonstrate a ‘team player’ ethic
