Position Overview

The Director of School Bus Transportation oversees all aspects of the transportation services provided by the school district. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of student transportation.

 

The Director of School Bus Transportation plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school. This position requires a combination of managerial expertise, technical knowledge, and dedication to the well-being of students and staff.

 

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement long-term transportation plans to support the needs of the school district.
  • Coordinate with school administrators to align transportation services with academic schedules and requirements.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to continually improve transportation operations.

 

Supervision and Leadership

  • Lead, and supervise transportation staff, including bus drivers, mechanics, and administrative personnel.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training to ensure compliance with safety regulations and service standards.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that prioritizes safety, professionalism, and customer service.

 

Safety and Compliance

  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure that all buses are properly maintained, inspected, and equipped with necessary safety features.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and complaints related to transportation services and implement corrective actions as needed.

 

Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for transportation-related inquiries from parents, students, staff, and community members.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, district officials, and transportation committees to address concerns, gather feedback, and implement improvements.
  • Establish effective communication channels to keep stakeholders informed of transportation schedules, changes, and updates.
  • Liaise with an outside transportation company

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in transportation operations, preferably in a school district or educational institution.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and best practices in student transportation.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (or ability to obtain).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to transportation emergencies as needed.
