About Us

Lexington Light Academy is operated by Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI). SESI Schools provide specialized education programming for K-12 students who require additional educational and positive behavioral supports to overcome challenges that impede success in a traditional school setting.

The Opportunity

The School Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and various school-related activities. This role requires a commitment to ensuring a safe and positive environment for students while adhering to all traffic and safety regulations. This position is part-time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Transportation:

  • Safely drive students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and other designated locations.
  • Follow designated routes and schedules, adjusting as necessary for traffic or weather conditions.
  • Ensure timely arrival and departure from school and activity locations.
  • Safety:
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the van is in good working order.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized van, ensuring all safety equipment is operational and accessible.
  • Assist students in boarding and disembarking the van safely.

Student Interaction:

  • Provide a positive and supportive environment for students, addressing any issues or concerns in a calm and professional manner.
  • Supervise students during transportation to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Report any behavioral issues or incidents to school authorities as needed.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and transportation coordinators regarding schedules, delays, and any issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and any maintenance or repairs needed for the vehicle.

Administrative Duties:

  • Complete and submit all required paperwork, including incident reports, vehicle inspection logs, and any other documentation as requested.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required.

The Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience driving a van or similar vehicle, particularly in a school or childcare setting, is a plus.

Licensing & Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
