The Opportunity

SESI is seeking a dedicated and experienced Curriculum Coordinator to join our team and support the professional development of our teachers in a Special Education setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, instructional strategies, and coaching, with a commitment to improving educational outcomes for students with diverse learning needs. This role involves collaborating with educators to enhance their instructional practices, providing targeted support, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Professional Development and Training:

 

  • Develop and deliver high-quality professional development sessions tailored to the needs of special education teachers.
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and in-service programs focused on evidence-based instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, and inclusive practices.

Coaching and Mentoring:

 

  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching to teachers, focusing on improving instructional practices and student engagement.
  • Observe classroom instruction, provide constructive feedback, and model effective teaching strategies.
  • Support teachers in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior management plans.

 

Curriculum and Instruction:

 

  • Collaborate with teachers to design and adapt curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
  • Assist in the selection and implementation of appropriate instructional materials and resources.
  • Promote the use of data-driven instruction by helping teachers analyze student performance data and adjust teaching methods accordingly.

Collaboration and Support:

 

  • Work closely with school administration, special education staff, and general education teachers to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.
  • Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, and other collaborative efforts to support student success.
  • Serve as a resource for teachers, providing guidance on best practices and new developments in special education.

Program Development and Evaluation:

 

  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of school-wide initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes for students with special needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of school improvement plans and monitor progress towards goals.

Qualifications:

 

Education:

Master’s degree preferred 

BA degree required 

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of special education laws, IEP development, and instructional best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with teachers, administrators, and students.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and the use of technology to support teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
