The Opportunity 

The Truancy Specialist provides a variety of services to students, families, schools, and the community. Along with working towards resolving truancy problems the Truancy Coordinator works with other school staff and outside agencies to identify and eliminate barriers to students’ academic achievement and their healthy social-emotional development. The coordinator provides both direct and indirect services to help students achieve maximum benefit from an educational experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Provides support to families experiencing difficulty with student school attendance. Implement compliance with compulsory attendance laws using legal/judicial processes as provided by the school code. Enforces the attendance laws of the Commonwealth of PA.
  • Assess and responds to referrals for students needing individual or group assistance/intervention in areas such as attendance; community services and substance abuse

  • Links families to community agencies and social service providers. Resources include financial aid, housing, childcare, medical care, legal assistance, emergency aid, behavioral health assistance, etc. Provides transportation for students and families to/from community-based appointments if needed

  • Performs tasks as appropriate to assure building compliance with special education regulations. Including participation in MDE and re-rehearing conferences and delivering documents to homes for required signatures

  • Establishes supportive relationships with family units to assure that students’ social and emotional needs essential to success in school are met. Teach conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Fully supports the academic goals of the students and understands and supports the current curriculum and instructional approaches for students including students with special needs

  •  Other duties as assigned

Compensation: $50,000-$55,000


The Qualifications 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning Required 
  • Valid Home School Visitor Certification or willing to be emergency certified with the clause of getting the certification Required.
  • Commitment to learning and implementing feedback 
  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible
