Business Zone Technician I

Summary
Installs, operates, maintains and repairs communications equipment such as digital and analog carrier systems, private line and special services circuits (HICAP), fiber optics systems, alarm systems, test equipment, etc.

General Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

A. Keeping a detailed record of all work related daily activities.
B. Installing, repairing and maintaining inside cables, wires and plug-in equipment to connect telecommunication systems and equipment.
C. Performing routine maintenance on equipment as required.
D. Reviewing, interpreting and working with worksheets, service orders, circuit diagrams, blueprints and company practices describing nature and location of systems and equipment to be installed and/or repaired. Ensures FCC and regulatory requirements are met.
E. Performs transmission and operational tests to analyze data and/or voice circuits.
F. Calibrating and adjusting electronic circuitry.
G. Working with complex testing devices such as frequency and data signal generators, transmission measuring sets, T-1 test boxes, sidekick meters and volt ohm meters to install and repair telecommunications systems.
H. Operating a computer terminal to install or modify software programs within telecommunication systems and for daily dispatching and time reporting.
I. Evaluating customer’s communication needs, selling and installing company products and services on the spot or referring customer to appropriate business unit.
J. Receiving work assignments from supervisors, other designated employees or dispatch system.
K. Coordinating work with other work groups.
L. Contacting customers face to face to notify them of work being performed on their lines and/or system, and when service is restored. Also communicates company policy and bills customers when appropriate.
M. May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company

Basic Qualifications
A. Tests – Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.
B. Note: Previous experience as an Installer-Repairperson, Switchperson, Data, and/or Equipment Installer is desirable.
C. Must meet Frontier’s standards of professionalism in communications and appearance.
D. Must wear Frontier branded attire. Wears appropriate safety apparel and is aware of and follows all established safety practices and procedures.
E. Must have ability to work with tools, electrical circuits, test equipment and to do technical work.
F. Ability to work in confined areas.
G. Ability to lift and carry tool boxes, drop wire, parts containers and installation loads, test equipment, etc.
H. Ability to work aloft. In some areas, pole climbing may not be a requirement; for locations where pole climbing is required, a candidate must meet the course qualification standard.
I. Ability to lift, carry, set-up, climb and take down ladders.
J. Ability to communicate naturally and pleasantly over the telephone.
K. Ability to professionally communicate extensively in person during customer installation.
L. Requires alertness and attention to detail. Ability to work under stress.
M. A valid driver’s license. Able to meet medical and driver certification requirements as established by the DOT Federal Highway Safety Act. Not restricted to daylight hours. May require more specialized drivers’ license based on State Laws and Regulations.
N. Able to read and interpret architectural, electrical wiring diagrams.
O. Able to operate applicable test equipment.
P. Must be available to work tours as scheduled including nights, weekends, and holidays and for callouts and/or overtime as required.

Education
A degree in computer or electronics technology from an accredited or recognized educational institution is desired.  Successful completion of equivalent courses from an accredited or recognized educational institution is desired.
