Description

Position at FloSports

FloSports is a leading sports media company positioned as the essential destination for passionate sports fans, delighting them with live event coverage, original documentaries, breaking news, highlights, stats, rankings, and team and player profiles. We are growing Our Sports every day by continuing to invest in our ever-expanding ecosystem, which consists of over a dozen sport verticals and hundreds of streaming partners. FloSports is creating the home for sports like grassroots Motorsports, Hockey, Wrestling, Track & Field, Grappling, Cheer, College Conferences, and more, and we are looking for innovative, talented, and passionate people like you to help us!

THE ROLE:
FloSports is seeking a Financial Data Scientist to join our high impact Strategic Finance team. The Strategic Finance team drives strategic decisions concerning new investment opportunities, including new media rights deals and media rights renewals, finding ways to unlock more value from our existing business through outperformance in customer acquisition, retention, and customer lifetime value (LTV), and improving our overall customer experience. We also advise on and execute the capital allocation decisions across our sports portfolio and M&A priorities. One of our main objectives is to guide the company to achieve the long-term strategic objectives that we’ve defined in partnership with leadership.
To start, this role will be critical in revising our forecasting, predictions, and monitoring of subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention. This person will own the sourcing of critical data inputs for forecasting and predictive models, storing this data in a structured and auditable manner, e.g., Snowflake, and creating scalable and extensible predictive models for new customer acquisition and subscriber viewership. The ideal candidate will have domain experience diving into financial and operational data and thinking analytically about the health of business revenue growth and profitability. You will be excited to develop a thoughtful portfolio forecasting framework, across key KPIs such as acquisition, retention, LTV, and engagement, and ideally have familiarity with subscription-based DTC businesses, OTT products, and/or SVOD and live event streaming services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner on and serve as the data science and technical lead for demand forecasting and the burgeoning demand planning function.
  • Own the data product for demand forecasting, leading cross-functionally across Finance, Strategic Finance, Business Intelligence, Rights Acquisitions, Ad Sales, Content, Marketing, and Vertical GMs.
  • Drive the strategy and roadmap for demand forecasting, predicting efficient portfolio models for our verticals that factor in existing, renewal, and new media rights deals - drive meaningful revenue growth while scaling vertical gross and contribution margins.
  • Leverage your demand forecasting framework and scalable predictive model(s) to forecast subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention at the deal and vertical portfolio level.
  • Develop a process to store model(s) used as part of the deal approval process, in order to audit past decisions and iteratively improve upon prior decisions based on lessons learned.
  • Partner on experiment design and conduct causal analyses to provide actionable insights that inform the demand forecasting model(s) and key business decisions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on internal/external data sources, ensuring anomalies are identified and addressed proactively.
  • Serve as owner and thought leader for interactive demand forecasting dashboards that inform key stakeholders about the health drivers for historical performance and serve as a forward-looking evaluator of our programming strategy and execution.
  • Passion about growing Our Sports within the sports media industry and establishing a working knowledge of the key players and their events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical field (Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or Data Science) or equivalent experience.
  • 5-6 years of professional experience in a quantitative analysis role (experience working in fintech or with a revenue and finance team, GTM, et al, is a plus).
  • Ability to define the appropriate metric frameworks that empower data informed decision-making processes.
  • Experience with experiment design, implementation, analysis, and recommendation for actionable insights.
  • Deep understanding of statistical model building and data analyses, such as causal inference and regressions; expertise in numerical algorithms.
  • Experience with forecasting customer and revenue growth.
  • Proficiency with financial and operational data and financial modeling.
  • Experience in influencing product, marketing, content/programming, and corporate strategy team by providing clear, accurate, and actionable insights through effective communication.
  • Strong background in Python (Excel is a plus), including statistical modeling, and expertise in SQL.
  • Comfortable working with and querying large datasets.
  • Analytical reasoning, intellectual curiosity, and attention to detail for maintaining code and data integrity.
  • Able to speak to both technical and non-technical audiences.

BONUS POINTS:

  • Direct experience developing demand forecasting models and establishing/working in demand planning functions, particularly within a SaaS, subscription, and/or e-commerce business.
  • Experience with Streamlit in Snowflake for turning data and ML models into interactive apps with Python.
  • Familiarity with cloud based analytics and CRM platforms (Salesforce) and data visualization tools (Domo).
