Senior Accountant – Contract Accounting (Percentage of Completion)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly reliable Senior Accountant to support our contract accounting function. This role is focused on percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting, progress billings, and maintaining accurate, well-documented project financial records. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform contract accounting using the percentage-of-completion (POC) method
- Set up and maintain customer and project contracts in the accounting system
- Process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and approvals
- Prepare and submit progress billings in accordance with contract terms
- Compile and manage required billing support, including:
- Schedules of Values (SOVs)
- Lien waivers and lien-related documentation
- Other contract-required supporting documents
- Reconcile job costs, billings, and revenue recognition
- Maintain organized, audit-ready accounting records
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve billing or cost discrepancies
- Assist with month-end close activities related to contract accounting
Qualifications
- Proven experience with contract accounting, specifically the POC method
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and progress billing
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Experience with Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP) accounting software a must.
Preferred Experience
- Accounting degree or equivalent professional experience
- Background in construction, manufacturing, or project-based accounting environments
- Familiarity with lien laws and compliance documentation
