Position Overview:    
FCT is looking for an experienced Theory and Clinical Instructor to teach in our Personal Support Worker Program. The candidate must have knowledge and previous experience in teaching the program, site supervision, long-term care, and demonstrated expertise in helping students become exceptional PSWs.     
Theory and Clinical Instructor is responsible for facilitating a dynamic learning environment, overseeing lesson plans, lectures, and assessments, and shaping future business leaders through active class engagement, academic support, and developing academic resources and materials.     
Work Schedule:    
Courses will be scheduled between 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM. Morning, afternoon and evening classes.    
Specific Responsibilities:    
  • Develop and deliver an engaging learning environment using available resources and various teaching methods to effectively achieve course objectives.
  • Oversee lesson planning, assignments, class, and assessments of the student’s work to ensure students understand course goals and expectations.
  • Monitor attendance and professional conduct in clinical areas.
  • Encourage strict adherence to facility policies and regulations.
  • Oversee students’ performance in the placement facilities and provision of safe, effective, empathic care to clients and residents.
  • Facilitate discussions, provide feedback, and encourage active student participation during classes.
  • Introduce case studies, challenges, and innovative ideas to cultivate critical thinking and rational reasoning skills in students.
  • Provide academic support to students through tutoring, academic counseling, regularly scheduled office hours, email, and group study sessions.
  • Participate in relevant department and faculty meetings to stay informed and contribute to faculty responsibilities.
  • Conduct further research into their specific field of knowledge.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required. 
Education and Experience:    
  • Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited college or equivalent.
  • Current registration as an RN or RPN, licensed to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario without any restrictions.
  • A minimum of two years of recent, relevant work experience in a clinical setting. Experience in long-term care, community, or chronic care is preferred.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) certification is desired.
Knowledge and Skills:    
 
  • A minimum of three years of PSW teaching experience is desired.
  • One year of clinical site supervision is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency and expertise in teaching the following areas: PSW scope of practice and relevant legislations, anatomy and physiology, common disorders/diseases and related medications, safety, mobility, infection control, personal hygiene, nutrition and hydration, palliative care, and mental health, as well as skills application.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills while conducting lectures, facilitating discussions, and engaging in other classroom activities.
  • Capable of effectively conveying complex information to students.
  • Basic mathematical skills for calculating medication dosages, assignment scores, exams, and grades.
  • Fundamental computer proficiency, including presentation software, Excel and MS applications, and student information systems. Familiarity with electronic charting software is a plus.
  • Experience using LMSs. 
  • Availability and willingness to commute to the college campus in Toronto for in-person class delivery as required.
  • Availability and willingness to commute or travel to clinical facilities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to supervise students during their clinical placements.
