Small Claims Specialist
Description
The Small Claims Specialist supports the legal department with the administration, logistics and management of governance and legal processes and activities. In partnership with senior leaders, you will manage the small claims caseload and prepare and file legal filings on behalf of the credit union.

Job duties
- Assist senior leadership with management of policy and governance processes
- Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to document business processes and requirements
- Obtain and maintain legal industry knowledge through attendance of continuing legal education classes and/or conferences and meetings
- Review and ensure the company's compliance with regulations, as required
- Manage a small claims (generally, collections matters valued at $10k or less) litigation caseload
- Prepare and file legal filings and work with EGLA Department leadership to prepare litigation strategy for small claims litigation matters
- Appearance on behalf of First Tech in various small claims mediation and court proceedings related to small claims litigation as directed by leadership
- Prepare, file, and execute on garnishments for successful small claims and other judgments
- Assist with tracking and assembling relevant department reporting related to small claims and garnishments and as otherwise assigned by EGLA Department leadership
Essential skills
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in small claims collections, compliance or paralegal role
- Proficiency in performing legal research related to state and federal laws and regulations and composing written findings to leadership
- Efficient, well-organized, able to effectively prioritize to manage a variety of duties
- Strong business communication skills; able to write/speak clearly and professionally for a variety of audiences; including ability to appear on behalf of First Tech at required legal proceedings for small claims purposes
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Familiarity with financial institution core systems is preferred (such as Fiserv/DNA)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Certification/License: Either obtain (within 1 year of hire) or maintain a relevant Compliance Certification (CUNA, NAFCU, etc.)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or or equivalent professional experience in lieu of degree
Location: Hillsboro, OR 97124 (HYBRID)
Target Compensation in Hillsboro, OR: $45,000 to 52,000 annually + annual bonus
