Position at American First Finance

The Legal Extern will assist American First Finance's Legal and Compliance Department on a wide range of issues touching different areas of law. The Legal Intern will provide legal assistance to attorneys, paralegals, and compliance professionals by conducting legal research (including multi-state research projects in various subject areas), assisting with litigation defense (including case analysis, drafting pleadings, assisting with discovery projects), preparing regulatory and licensing filings, statutory and regulatory interpretation, drafting contracts, and supporting other corporate legal initiatives to facilitate the business objectives of AFF.
Roles and Responsibilities
*       Consults with members of the Legal and Compliance Department as needed to resolve legal and regulatory compliance issues
*       Conducts legal research related to federal and state consumer finance and debt collection laws and regulations
*       Assists in revising templates for consumer agreements, disclosures, notices, and other consumer facing documents
*       Assists in drafting and preparing litigation pleadings and documents
*       Assists in reviewing and responding to discovery requests as well as drafting discovery requests to opposing parties
*       Reviews non-disclosure agreements (NDAs); software agreements; merchant partner agreements; and independent sales representative agreements
*       Reviews, investigates, and drafts responses to subpoenas
*       Researching licensing issues and prepares regulatory and licensing filings
*       Assists the Legal and Compliance Department in maintaining its contract lifecycle management system and files
*       Other duties as assigned
