Retail Area Director (East)
Description
This position can be located in any FirstBank branch/office within the East TN bank footprint.
Summary:
The Retail Area Director will be responsible for overseeing the retail banking operations and acquisition strategy within a defined geographical area of the bank's footprint. This leadership role involves managing branch performance, driving customer engagement, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality financial services tailored to the local market's needs. The Retail Area Director will work closely with branch leadership, sales teams, and other departments to align business objectives and achieve growth targets for the assigned markets. The role involves strategic partnerships with other banking leaders to optimize the bank’s branch network, ensuring alignment between metro and community customer acquisition and service experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute retail banking acquisition and service strategies for the designated market, ensuring alignment with overall bank objectives.
- Provide leadership and oversight to branch managers within the area, fostering a culture of performance, customer service, and compliance.
- Drive sales and service initiatives to enhance branch performance and market share. Collaborate with branch teams to identify growth opportunities and implement targeted campaigns.
- Ensure a superior customer experience across all branches by promoting best practices, associate training, and customer feedback initiatives.
- Conduct analysis of local market trends and customer needs to adjust strategies and offerings, ensuring the bank remains competitive and relevant.
- Ensure that all branches within the area comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies, maintaining the bank's reputation for integrity and compliance.
- Set performance goals for branches and evaluate progress through regular assessments. Provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to ensure team success.
- Work with product development, marketing, and digital banking teams to enhance the bank’s offerings and adapt them to the specific needs of the area.
- Cultivate an environment that supports diversity, teamwork, and performance. Provide leadership though communication, performance management, development and recognition of staff.
- Manage the team by hiring, coaching, training and providing direction to team members through feedback to support personal development and ongoing improvement.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in retail banking, with a focus on branch operations or market leadership.
- Proven track record of driving sales growth and improving customer satisfaction.
- Strong understanding of retail banking products and services.
- Proven experience in leading and developing teams.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and risk management in banking.
Skills and Abilities
- Frequent local travel within assigned market; occasional overnight travel as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to drive performance and growth through effective leadership and collaboration.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with a proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, business leaders, and community stakeholders.
