SBA Operations Analyst

Summary:
The SBA Operations Analyst serves as FirstBank’s internal control point and coordinator for SBA loan operations in a lender-service-provider (LSP) supported environment. While the LSP performs most underwriting, loan packaging, closing, and servicing functions, this role ensures accurate execution, system integrity, payment coordination, portfolio analytics, and reporting oversight on behalf of the Bank. This is a fully in-person role, designed to work closely with FirstBank’s Loan Operations team, making the Franklin Loan Operations Center the preferred location. The role also plays a critical part in monthly portfolio and income reporting, leveraging FirstBank’s internal reporting tools, including Microsoft Power BI, to provide leadership with timely, accurate insights into SBA loan balances and profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lender Service Provider (LSP) Coordination
- Act as the primary in-house liaison between FirstBank and the SBA lender service provider
- Coordinate loan status updates, documentation flow, servicing actions, and issue resolution
- Review LSP deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with FirstBank policy and SBA requirements
- Track, escalate, and help resolve operational exceptions and servicing discrepancies
Loan Boarding, Payments & System Oversight
- Ensure SBA loans are accurately boarded into FirstBank’s core system of record
- Coordinate and reconcile monthly loan payments between the Bank, LSP, and any third-party servicers
- Assist with tracking SBA guaranty fees, servicing fees, and other operational accounting items
- Partner closely with Loan Operations and Accounting to support accurate posting and reconciliation
Portfolio Management, Analytics & Reporting
- Maintain internal SBA loan trackers, reports, and dashboards
- Utilize Microsoft Power BI and other internal reporting tools to: Report monthly SBA loan balances o Track portfolio growth and runoff o Report interest income, fee income, and overall SBA portfolio performance
- Reconcile reported balances and income to core system and accounting data
- Prepare recurring monthly and quarterly reports for SBA leadership, finance, credit, and risk teams
- Identify trends, variances, and insights related to portfolio performance and profitability
Compliance & Controls Support
- Support SBA SOP compliance by maintaining strong documentation and internal controls
- Assist with SBA exams, internal audits, and servicing file requests
- Track post-closing items including collateral perfection, insurance, UCCs, and servicing ticklers
- Ensure FirstBank maintains appropriate oversight and governance within an outsourced servicing model
Process & Program Development
- Help build and document internal SBA operational workflows and reporting processes
- Collaborate with the Director of SBA Lending on process, reporting, and control enhancements as the SBA platform scales
- Support vendor management efforts by tracking service levels, reporting accuracy, and performance metrics
- Contribute to the long-term development of FirstBank’s SBA operations and reporting infrastructure
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field
- 1–2 years of experience in loan operations, banking, or financial support roles
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (sorting, filtering, basic formulas)
- Working knowledge of Power BI or other reporting/dashboard tools
- Working knowledge of SBA 7(a) eligibility and underwriting fundamentals - preferred
- Experience with SBA lending, government‑guaranteed loans, or commercial loan operations - preferred
- Familiarity with loan boarding, payment reconciliation, or core banking systems - preferred
- Experience preparing operational or financial reports - preferred

- Basic understanding of loan servicing, payment processing, or general banking operations
- Strong financial analysis and cash flow assessment skills

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing documents and data
