POSITION SUMMARY:  

Regional Credit Officer (RCO) – Responsible for the overall asset quality in the Region while partnering with the Regional President, Market Presidents, and Bankers to achieve the Region’s and Bank’s financial goals.  The focus is on long-term, consistent, profitable growth.  The RCO will report directly to the Chief Credit Officer.

The role includes traditional “credit” area responsibilities for asset quality.  Incumbent will exhibit the ability to highlight credit proposals which in their view do not meet the FB credit risk appetite, and in those instances will consult with the Regional President and/or Chief Credit Officer for guidance.

The Chief Credit Officer may consult with the Regional President on the annual performance and compensation reviews.

  • With limited supervision and a team approach, proactively work with Bankers to make independent credit decisions in a timely manner that meets the Bank’s credit appetite and distinctive service commitment. The RCO will be assigned credit authority in conjunction with their experience level, time within the FB position, and market needs.
  • Chair the Regional Credit Risk Committee
  • Demonstrate ability to quickly analyze available information and formulate an action plan addressing the topics below:
  • Initial exploratory discussions with MP/RM/PM. Typically, the RCO would be involved after preliminary assessment meeting by the RM with the client or prospective client.
  • Deep financial assessment of Borrower/Guarantor
  • Repayment capacity
  • Evaluation of collateral
  • Character and experience of Borrower/Guarantor
  • Adherence to Policy
  • Industry issues
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of all credit products – loans, ACH, LCs, and SWAPs
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of Consumer and Business (CRE and C & I) customer types, asset classes, and industries.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of Capital Markets and Macro and Micro economics concepts and applications
  • Assist with the education, training, and mentoring of Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, and Relationship Manager Associates related to the credit process.
  • Exhibit an expert understanding of banking industry regulatory compliance including FirstBank-specific policies and procedures, applying knowledge and best practices as appropriate.
  • Proactively look for ways to improve the credit process – such as improvements to CLAD/CUF, underwriting, industry comparisons and concentrations, documentation, new products, and technology.
  • On occasion, assist Regional President/Market President with underwriting, structuring, and closing complex credits.
  • Customer Service: Responsible for fostering a professional experience for internal associates and external clients. Encouraged to attend weekly/monthly Market Sales Meetings and Client and Key Prospect Meetings.
  • Portfolio Management/On-going Servicing: With limited supervision and in a team approach, work closely with Market Presidents and Bankers to provide oversight and assistance with on-going analysis and identify customer trends and issues, modifications and amendments to existing loans, and timely and accurate risk ratings. Regional Credit Officer will need to have a working knowledge of the entire portfolio with oversight of the following:
    • Past Dues
    • Daily Overdrafts/NSFs
    • Monthly Borrowing Bases
    • Covenant Compliance
    • Watch Lists Clients (4W – 8 grades)
    • ORE/Other Assets
    • Policy Exceptions
    • Charge-offs/Recoveries
    • Collections
  • Practice safe and sound bank procedures, including adherence to applicable laws and regulations, internal controls, operational procedures, risk management policies, and security protocols
  • Incumbent will be called upon to participate in corporate level projects as needed (i.e., Credit Initiatives, M&A, etc.)
  • Represent FirstBank by participating in Bank and community activities, events and civic organizations; build, expand and maintain an established network of business and social referral sources.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics strongly preferred

Experience: Minimum 15 (10 for Area Credit Officer) years of banking experience with a minimum of 7 years in a meaningful credit role.  Also strongly prefer prior experience as Senior Relationship Manager or Market President.
