Field Service Technician - Mechanical Remote, United States


Job Summary:

The Controls TFA II, having completed level II competencies, manages controls activities on site during the Installation and Commissioning and Maintenance of turbines/equipment (generator or mechanical drive). Responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID’s, troubleshooting of plant systems and equipment. Direct the planning, organizing, of resources such as labor, tools, vendors, and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead safety programs & keep others safe. Ensure all in-field activities are carried out safely complying with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures
  • Overall responsibility of the management of site activities including planning, organizing, integrating, and directing of resources such as labor, vendors, tools, and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements
  • Actively manage controls activities on site during Installation and Commissioning and Maintenance of equipment, including but not limited to oversight of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Write accurate professional reports acting as single point of contact between Customers and GE concerning technical issues and interfacing with all involved functions
  • Ensure the correct installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and maintenance practices are followed according to Installation and commission manual
  • Provide general knowledge of equipment instrumentation calibration
  • Provide technical expertise to customers, service support, field technicians and operators
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met and attend technical meetings with Customers
  • Manage hour and expense records for site.
  • When required submit NCR, COQ and Service Now cases to record issues that may arise.
  • Travel required
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and/or 5 years of experience without formal degree, in power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, or power plant equipment installation/ commissioning.
  • Successful completion of required level IV training programs is a minimum requirement.
  • Demonstrated progressive, responsible experience with various types of turbine generator equipment and site accountabilities is required.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Qualified Has the knowledge and skill to actively support an outage and be aware of where to seek answers to questions as they arise. Has experienced successful installations and outages
  • Experience with Gas Turbine Driver Control Systems and Auxiliary Systems
  • Solid knowledge of Gas Turbine Control Systems and Auxiliary Systems including but not limited to Woodward Netcon, Micronet, Micronet Plus, GE Mark V, VI, Vie, Fanuc, RX3i, and RX7i controls systems
  • Preferable field experience on Wonderware, Cimplicity, and iFix HMI software
  • Confrontable communicating with vendors to troubleshoot or setup supplied equipment
  • Solid knowledge of implementing controls software upgrades
  • Solid familiarity with Bently Nevada 3500 Vibration Monitoring System
  • Solid familiarity with Fire System Controls
  • Demonstrated use and understanding of physical standards of mass, temperature flow and pressure.
  • Read and interpret electrical/mechanical flow and instrument diagrams, Prepare & submit all Redline DWG’s
  • Working knowledge of computers/PLC's
  • Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to complete multiple projects within time constraints
  • Advanced organizational skills
