Job Summary:

The Generator Diagnostic Specialist is a highly skilled technician who will form part of the Inspection & Life Extension Services (I&LES) As part of their role they are required to prepare and review pre-inspection documentation to identify test parameters and requirements, to acquire, assemble, and process nondestructive inspection data from tests performed on turbo generator equipment. You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our FieldCore vision and align with our organization’s core values

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Execute inspection on customer site
    • Visual inspection of Generator components, Exciter and auxiliary equipment
    • Operate robotic inspection equipment
    • Electrical testing (DC and AC) and non-destructive mechanical testing on Generator main components, Exciter and auxiliary equipment
    • Interpretation of test results to determine maintenance requirements
    • Acquisition and evaluation of generator health monitoring data
    • Fact finding in case of generator equipment failure
  • Derive maintenance work orders based on inspection results.
  • Develop and produce formal customer reports containing recommendations, computer generated graphics,plots, tables, summaries and comparisons.
  • Maintain & archive electronic and hard copy inspection data and reports.
  • Identify and execute improvement projects in the field of Generator test and inspect.
  • Effectively communicate with resource manager, Field Engineers, Product Service Engineering and Customers during all phases of the inspection cycle (pre-job, test execution, post job meetings).
  • Travel may be required
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments
  • May be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our FieldCore vision and align with our organization’s core values.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS in electrical engineering
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Qualification in installing Generator Health monitoring products and interpretation of monitoring data
  • Ability to interpret, write & assemble technical documents, drawings, reports and communicate with and earn and maintain the respect of our customers
  • Work effectively with minimal direction and supervision
  • Experience with developing work instructions
  • Must have Valid Passport, Driver License

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience using digital data acquisition systems/analysis software tools, HV electrical testingand working in a customer field service organization
  • Power generation industry experience in the field of generator inspection and testing
  • Able to perform machining job independently, ensuring the highest level of quality
  • Exceptional communication, planning, technical and people skills
  • Commitment to environmental health and safety
  • A good Knowledge of approved procedures and instructions
  • Able to work in a team environment and cooperate with fellow workers
  • Capable of creative thinking and quick problem solving
