Field Service Technician - Mechanical Remote, Romania


Location flexible to the following countries:  Poland, Croatia, Romania, Spain, Turkey, Italy or Greece.

The Generator Inspector (Visual Inspections Specialist) is responsible for performing robotic and limited access inspections of generators. These inspections with associated data acquisition are carried out at commercial power plants worldwide.  Other responsibilities are completing standard service or test reports and monitoring site safety on projects

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Implement and follow, all written practices and policies regarding the applicable technique/technology involved, as well as to aid in the continual development of these procedures & techniques to constantly improve the deliverables
  • Generator Visual, Mechanical & Electrical Robotic Inspections with High Voltage Electrical Testing of multiple OEM Generators.
  • The inspections to be performed are Visual, Mechanical & Low Voltage Electrical testing via Robotic methods
  • This position requires analytical abilities, great, strong computer skill background, and solid professional writing capabilities in order to work closely with end customers, internal GE customers various Field Engineers, Contract Performance Managers, Quality leaders, Operations managers and Product Line Leaders
  • Full responsibility in producing final reports for Fieldcore Representatives and end customers
  • Directly conduct limited access borescope inspections and/or robotic operation of miniature air gap inspection crawlers (MAGIC and Diris)
  • Provide analysis and reporting of data received from field inspections, archive and document inspection results.
  • Perform minor maintenance of inspection equipment as and when required on site.
  • Drive safety, quality and technical excellence
  • Required to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments
  • Travel will be required

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Professional Band I: This is applicable to Trainee skill level 1 and/or Qualified Skill Level 2:
    • Technical/University degree or qualifying experience or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a field services role
  • For Trainee Skill Level 1 personnel
    • Includes most new hires with little experience on the GE Products will start in this level. Participates in classroom training and on the job training. Work under supervision of qualified personnel. Basic knowledge of inspection/testing and assigned hardware. Trainees shall not independently conduct inspections/tests or make accept/reject decisions. Soft-Skills expectations: Assimilated into our business culture, can execute required administrative duties such as timesheet entry tool, T&L, PCard, etc. Basic understanding of the organizational structures and leadership. Through classroom, labs and on the job training, understands basic processes and methods to execute inspection/test work scope. Assumes personal responsibility and follows up to meet commitments to others, responds quickly and proactively to all requests
  • For Qualified Skill Level 2 personnel.
    •  Working knowledge of the various types of hardware to be inspected/tested. Qualified on requirements of technical skills level 1 and started gaining working experience and started working on obtaining the required technical skills methods/procedures set for level 2. Knows where to go to get the proper drawings and specifications required for inspection/testing of equipment. Understands the general scope and sequence of events for the inspection to be performed. Qualified to properly perform specific calibrations, specific tests and specific evaluations for acceptance/rejection determinations according to written instructions and to obtained and recorded results. May interpret inspections/tests results for evaluating the acceptability of materials or components. Soft-Skills expectations: Is aware of the various roles on an inspection/test project and understands specifically the role of the inspector. Reviews and utilizes Inspection/test Instructions, Field Procedures, QMS, etc. when planning and performing work. Can be relied upon to ensure that projects within areas of specific responsibility are completed in a timely manner
All levels require:
  • Analytical abilities, and great communication skills (for both co-workers and clients)
  • Advanced computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, & PowerPoint for data analysis, word processing and spreadsheet manipulation
  • Extensive travel to and from projects and various field assignments will be required
  • Possess a valid driver's license

    Desired Characteristics:
    • Current or prior borescope experience and certifications, preferably on Generators
    • Willingness and ability to travel globally on short notice, and for extended periods of time
    • Ability to work safely with minimal supervision, prioritize, organize work, and meet strict deadlines
