    • Hourly Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00

Position Overview: The Release of Information Technician maintains health information management (HIM) integrity through knowledge of medical record content, medical terminology, and abbreviations, abstracting and analysis techniques, and medical record storage and retrieval. Demonstrates knowledge of the legal aspects of patient medical records, including release of information and HIPAA Privacy and Security requirements. Oversees the appropriate retention, storage, and disposition of paper copies of patient health records.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the release of all patient information according to Family Care Center policy, HIPAA, and all other regulatory guidelines.
  • Responsible for copying, billing, and receipt of payment of all patient information requested by patients, insurance companies, attorney offices, healthcare organizations and all others authorized to receive patient information.
  • Ensures the accuracy and authenticity of release of information requests.
  • Maintains control and security of health records through established Family Care Center polices.
  • Maintains a log of all release of information requests.
  • Responsible for maintaining patient paper/electronic health records through timely, accurate data collection, scanning, filing, and storage.
  • Manages the storage, retirement, and destruction of paper records in accordance with applicable guidelines.
  • Coordinates the shipment, storage, retirement, and destruction of paper records in accordance with applicable retention guidelines.
  • Conducts regular audits of electronic health records to ensure mandatory fields are filled in and all required documents are stored in the Document Manager.

  • None

Other Duties:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a Health Information Management required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) preferred.
