About the Role

Excel Academy East Boston Middle School is seeking an Interim School Counselor/Social Worker who can start as soon as possible. The School Counselor is responsible for assessing and providing school-based treatment for social-emotional concerns that interfere with the student’s ability to access and engage in the Excel curriculum. 

Dates: January 2026 - April 2026

Hours: 20-30 hours/week.

Salary Range: $62,250 - $90,000, includes benefits

Hourly Range: $50-$82/hr, does not include benefits. The hourly rate for contractors will be adjusted based on years of experience and frequency of hours worked.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess student needs;
  • Provide recommendations based on professional expertise;
  • Manage an ongoing caseload of students;
  • Communicate with parents;
  • Provide counseling and support services for selected students, as needed;
  • Work as part of the Student Support Team; and
  • Serve as a productive member of the Excel community.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a master’s degree in social work or counseling;
  • An LICSW, LCSW, LMHC or LSW (or working towards a licensure, requiring supervision hours) or hold a DESE license in school counseling or adjustment counseling; and
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a school-based setting;
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred;
