Position Summary:
The Sr. Electrical Engineer leads the hardware design and development of DC Fast Charger controllers, owning designs from concept through prototype validation, release, and lifecycle management. The position partners closely with software and firmware teams to define requirements, debug and characterize hardware, manage suppliers, and ensure high-quality, production-ready controller solutions for EV charging systems.
Responsibilities:
- Own hardware design and lead development of the DC Fast Charger Controllers.
- Design controllers for EV and EVSE Simulator devices used for firmware feature development.
- Responsible for maintaining BOM and sourcing components.
- Responsible for releasing schematic design and board layout along with tracking version control.
- Hands-on design and validation of prototype hardware.
- Develop and manage suppliers including board house, qualification testing, field testing, and complete system implementation.
- Ensure design maturity through characterizations and debugging on prototype hardware.
- Define and Support Board EOL procedures.
- Work cross functionally with Software and Firmware teams to drive test and hardware requirements.
Required Skills and Experience:
- BS or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or related field.
- +5 years hardware design experience in analog, digital and mixed signal and interfaces.
- Experience with schematic design tools, PCB layout, FPGA development systems and tools, simulation tools (PSpice, Matlab, etc).
- Experience with protocols including SPI, I2C, CAN, Modbus, and Ethernet.
- Working Knowledge of High Voltage systems and Power Electronics.
- Proficiency on necessary test and measurement tools (Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, spectrum analyzer).
- Be a good self-starter, have a strong ability to deal with ambiguity, establish priorities, and proceed with objectives with limited supervision.
- Have good organizational skills and an ability to multi-task.
- Ability to travel occasionally.
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with embedded Linux devices is a plus.
- Knowledge of EV protocols such as CCS, J1772, DIN 701212 and ISO 15118 is a plus.
