A successful candidate for our Testing Technician role must be a collaborator, critical thinker, and be able to work through problems while identifying opportunities to improve processes and procedures. As part of our growing Hardware Team at the EVgo Lab in El Segundo, our Testing Technician will be responsible for administrative coordination of the EVgo Lab along with Technician responsibilities. The selected candidate will work with our industry experienced engineers and have career growth potential toward electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) Technician. Our Hardware Team ensures the safety and reliability of EVSE utilized by EVgo, continuously evaluates EVSE technologies, and enables OEM partners to bring EVs and their charging solutions to market with confidence.


Lab Administrative responsibilities include:

  • Effectively maintain and organize lab installed EVSEs, testing equipment, and inventory in collaboration with the hardware team.
  • Lab workspace and facilities administration and coordination with contractors as needed including lab equipment, networking and videoconferencing devices, cleaning services, security systems, and building maintenance.
  • Receiving infrequent procurements, organizing deliveries (including boxes, crates, pallets, etc.), sorting materials, and completing occasional outgoing shipments.
  • Purchasing supplies including food and beverage replenishment.

Technician responsibilities include:

  • Configure and support electronic and digital devices used to monitor and control charging equipment (e.g. networking and credit card equipment configurations).
  • Troubleshoot and repair electric vehicle charging equipment, electrical supply equipment, and networking equipment as directed.
  • Assemble, debug and qualify new test systems; hands-on identification of bug trends, defects, and resolution working closely within teams.
  • Collaboration and working closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, software engineers and IT networking professionals.
  • Analyze charging systems to ensure the complete system functions properly and apply corrections, as needed.
  • Execute test cases according to guided procedures, either written and verbal.
  • Gaining expertise to repair and maintain charging systems to EVgo and OEM standards.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • At least 2 years of technician-related experience in mechanical and/or electrical technologies including hands on equipment maintenance and/or system development experience.
  • Availability to work onsite in El Segundo for a minimum of 4 days per week.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Technical reading skills to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Communication and teamwork skills to complete detailed process steps and follow directions toward quality workmanship
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction related standards (e.g. NEC, NFPA 70)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or other education related to mechanical and/or electrical technology or engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience working effectively with a team of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and IT/networking professionals.
  • Ability to track and communicate task progress, status, and key performance metrics.
  • Experience contributing toward continuous improvement of quality assurance processes and procedures.
  • Ability to drive a forklift and handle shipment pallets.
