Wage Range: $36.46 - $58.32 per hour

Job Summary:
Works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy focusing on bariatric and weight loss that are integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives.
 
Primary Duties:
1. Assesses patient nutrition requirements using appropriate physiological data and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) guidelines.
2. Develops nutrition care plans for bariatric and weight loss patients based on medical nutrition therapy and or assessment data and modifies plan as necessary.
3. Collaborates with other healthcare team members to coordinate medical nutrition interventions with other aspects of medical care.
4. Educates and counsels patients and caregivers in one on one and group settings. Adjusts teaching technique and materials to match participant need.
5. Prepares patient for weight loss surgery following protocols.
6. Assists and formulates any needed weight loss protocols for the program.
7. Supports and provides clinical recommendations for complications. Floats to the in-patient areas to assist patients in that setting with acute care complications.
8. Completes timely, thorough, and professional documentation of all medical nutrition therapy encounters.
9. Participates in evaluating, selecting, developing and updating bariatric nutrition education materials or handouts and revisions of treatment protocols, according to evidence based medical nutrition therapy research and practice. Collaborates on multidisciplinary patient educational materials.
10. Responsible for creating bariatric digital content for podcasts, Facebook live, and mobile apps. Contributes nutrition content to the internal and external websites.
11. Participates in any media relation pieces for the program.
12. Participates as the host or presenter at monthly bariatric support group meetings as required.
13. Works collaboratively with the medical team with three arms of the program including Weight loss, Pharmacology, and Bariatric Surgery to communicate any concerns with regards to surgery/medication and to discuss outcomes and formulate a plan of care for the patient.
14. Functions as the bariatric nutrition expert within the clinical team and the organization.
15. Works as an inpatient dietitian as needed.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
License, Certification, Education or Experience:

 
REQUIRED for the position:
o Bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited institution with a major in dietetics, foods and nutrition
o 2 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian with a focus on bariatric and weight loss nutrition support
o Must be a Registered Dietitian with current certification as a Dietitian in the State of Washington
o Clinical expertise in bariatric nutrition assessment, evaluations and care plans
o Knowledge of the various bariatric surgeries and the possible nutrient deficiencies associated with each one
o Teaching skills that are easily adapted to fit the needs of the patient(s)
o Knowledge and expertise with developing digital content for various platforms and social media
o Strong public speaking skills and ability
o Excellent prioritization and organizational skills
o Ability to engage and motivate patients to adopt new self-management behaviors
o Assessment skills for developing a patient specific care plan
o Board Certification in Obesity Management through the Commission on Dietetic Registration within 6 months
o Registered member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics
 
DESIRED for the position:
o Knowledge and experience in the area of diabetes education
o Certified Diabetes Educator
o 2 years of experience working as a diabetes educator
